Life changed after I was diagnosed with UC about a year ago.

But these days, it is so frustrating that my underwear gets wet due to small amount of watery feces (faeces) ooze out while I am just sitting or doing something.

Sometimes even back of my pants get wet to some little amount and it gets frustrating

Do you also have such problems ? If so, it is a sign of UC getting bad ??

I've had this happen twice within the past month or two. I have CD though, not UC. I noticed it happens when I have milk, the first time was after Kefir. I don't know if its a sign of it getting worse, just thought I'd chime in.

you know, thats funny you posted this b/c recently i have been experiencing a little of this. Not too bad but i notice it and i have never noticed or had this in the past. I amexperiencing diarrea at the moment though so that probably why. Are you haveing D?

I knew, people will think i am stupid to post it...but still I did as all of us are having some problem and we are here to share knowledge and fight against it..

Don't worry. It's definitely not stupid to post your comments at all. That's what this forum is for -- and hopefully someone here can help you deal with it.

Are you having that happen when you pass gas, or is it just happening without you feeling it? Also what meds are you on?

You need to invest in a bunch pf super long panty liners, or thin maxi pads if the liners aren't holding it. I've worn some sort of panty liner every night & day for the past 2 years... a little wacked, but... it's definitely better than soggy stinky undies! Plus, when th eliner gets wet, you just replace the liner- not your underwear. The only way to go. I don't leak necessarily, but I have a fistula which leaks on & off all the time. When I have gas however, then there's a real good chance something aside from gas is going to exit my body!

well, it is not when I pass gas. It happens unknowingly while I am working and such. I don't feel I need to go to toilet or anything such when it happens.

By the way, I took Asacol quite for a long time. But stopped in the middle as I felt for how long I am to live with this medicine..
I am continuing the medicine again.

(I had done a good research on food which a person with UC should avoid. I will post it later in the evening. I hope it will help someone)

You should also be on rectal meds.


What dosage of Asacol are you on?



What's the extent of your UC...throughout or limited?



I've not had leaking unless it's an actual bm with an extreme urge to go and I've not yet made it to the toilet.

Lalupdate, I think it's interesting you said you took Asacol for "quite a long time"....... and you were only diagnosed a year ago?

I guess I've taken it for.... 15 or 18 years? and before that, Azulphidine, a different 5 ASA. When I was diagnosed, I asked my doctor how long I would be taking the medicine, and he answered, "If you're lucky, your whole life!"
Later I came to understand that by that, he meant that if I was lucky, my symptoms would be controlled by the relatively mild, safe 5ASAs and not need anything stronger, and/or that my disease wouldn't quickly bring me to the point of surgery.

I am prescribed to take 2 doses twice daily. Yeah... I understand people with UC need to take it continuously...

I think I should continue regularly again...

I need to go to restroom about 5 times a day. Well it depends... it is quite intriguing even for me. It depends upon the day. If I am on vacation and out of tension, then going to restroom about 3 times/day is ok..

but if i don't have work or if i have lots of work to do, I sometimes need to even go to restroom 7-8 times a day.

Sometimes it bleeds, but sometimes it doesn't .... but some blood stains come. It also depends upon what i eat that day and how i keep my mind in control that day.

Lalupate....where is the extent of your UC...limited or throughout.

Of course, the decision to take meds is up to you.

well, till now, it bled only once...about 2 drops..

When i go to restroom, sometimes stain of blood comes with faeces. But it doesn't sometimes.

But still, I need to go to restroom about 5 times a day... Well , I am thinking of continuing medicine again... Discontinued in middle, as I was a bit frustrated and felt...for how long..how long i take this medicine ...

My earlier research on UC helped me a lot. I read almost about 7 different books about diet for UC suffering person. I will share about it in the evening...(may be to sticky thread of this forum)

It sounds to me like you're not really in remission. I suggest you ask your doctor about rectal meds and possibly about upping your dose of Asacol. I also think you might have poor rectal strength, which is causing the leakage...maybe ask your doctor about that as well.

Lalupate I am interested in seeing what foods you avoid, I have had good success avoiding some foods. However, like you I suffer from slight leakage at times; in my case it's mucus, which usually occurs as an indication that a bowl movement will happen soon.

ps.
I forgot to ask, do you have to frequently clean the area because of the leakage?

Everytime I pass gas, something solid/water come out (sigmaprocditis). I often take unders and change when necessary. But I have/had a lot of gas ...
Now, I use toilet paper or paddings inside unders. Wonder how others deal with this :-)

I have had UC for about 2 years now and never had a leak except from rectal meds.  I do, however, have a leaky bladder (runs in my family).  I wear the new Infinity pad by Always - they are great - run up the back some where you need it.

Never happened to me. Asacol's a very safe drug and I agree you should try rectal meds. Also, I agree that you should invest in some pads or liners. Definitely see your doctor.

Maybe you need some rectal meds to squelch some local inflammation in the rectum/sigmoid?

even i get it.... but it is accompanied with passing of gas when flaring....so i try to reach nearby restroom even to pass gas.
