what does this test mean?

HI,
My wife is flaring so she got a few blood tests done, one of them was ERYTHROCYTE SEDIMENTATION RATE, AUTOMATED and have a abnormal (high) result of this test: it should be less than 20mm/hour & hers is 29. what does this mean?

Basically it means she/you have inflammation happening in your bodies. If she's flaring, it's confirming that. Although, not all who are flaring have a high ESR.

What other blood tests did you have done and what were the readings.....the doc shouldn't rely on this one alone.

the other tests are: C-REACTIVE PROTEIN,SER,QL which is again abnormal 0.8 while Range is <0.5- mg/dL

other tests done are: Alkaline Phosphate, ALT (ALANINE AMINOTRANSFERASE), SERUM , plus blood count test which were normal.

It seems that the C-Reactive Protein confirms inflammation (although not extremely high) and since she has UC, then it's "confirming" she has inflammation probably because of her UC.

Good the Alk Phos and ALT are normal...so her liver function tests are fine as well as blood tests.

What meds is your wife on at this time?

Was your wife tested because she had seen the doc for treatment for her flare and the doc wanted to check if her inflammation markers were elevated as well?

OR were the tests done before your wife was having symptoms of a flare?
