I'm sure that many on the UC Forum miss hearing from Bennie & Bratcat, Potty Girl, Dakota Girl, Keith (KS1905), Sara14, Trixy's Got Butt Trouble, Expecting226, and other stalwart members who haven't posted in a while. Here's hoping they're all feeling well & will catch us up sometime soon! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Hi everyone. Happy New Year! Old Hat, how nice of you to think of us (and everyone else).
We are doing fairly well. Physically, Bratcat is doing amazing. She finished her first semester of college and did well. No meds, no urgencies, just life! She recently spent the day in the city (NYC) with friends and didn't have to worry (any more than everyone else) about where is the next bathroom. Tonight she has friends over and they are currently playing Twister.
Nonamejames is doing pretty well too. His colonoscopy in the fall still showed some inflammation so the doctor upped his 6-mp a bit. He says he feels fine. Doesn't see blood. It's just the tests show otherwise. The doctor feels maybe he doesn't know what "feeling good" really is since he's dealt with his Crohns for so long undiagnosed.

Emotionally, we are adjusting. The kids probably a bit better than me. Some good days, some not so good. But we are very lucky that the 4 of us are so close. The kids have really stepped up to help out. I think it's the honeymoon period. Just waiting for it to end. LOL.
It's still very unreal but I'm facing the world one day at a time.

I usually see how everyone is doing here every few days. I just haven't posted. But I think of you all often and hope everyone has a wonderful, healthy 2010.

Hi Old Hat! Happy New Year to you too! I hope all has been well with you!

I wish I had better news to report, but my remission was only about 9 months. I'm in a flare up right now and can't seem to get it under control. 6 Asacol a day and Rowasa at night. I'm down 17 pounds, due to a lack of eating, and I feel very weak. Bleeding is minimal finally, but nothing solid is coming out yet. Yesterday I started with massive adominal and mid-back pain. It hurts my adbomen and esophogus when I belch. I feel like it is some serious gas, but I'm afraid that my colon is on the verge of a major inflammation flare up. It hurts to breath in too deep. I just have no idea what is going on with my gut.

I just switched from the 400mg Asacol Tablets (12 tabs) to the 800mg tablets (6 tabs daily). I wonder if that has anything to do with the abdominal pain and gurgling that I am having.

It seems forever since I've felt 100%. I ended up getting the flu 5 days before Thanksgiving and while with the flu, started getting a flare up with my UC and it hasn't let up since (almost 2 months now). Then on New Years Day I ended up getting the stomach flu. A day later I started the new Asacol Pills. It's been a week and I wonder if my pain is a reaction to the new pills.

I hope all is well with you and all the other old timers!

It's so good to hear from everyone! Old Hat, I was thinking about you this morning too! Glad to hear from you; you are always such a good friend to everyone. Happy New Year to you too...how is retirement? ;)

Wow! Glad to hear from Bennie & Trixy-- though sorry that you're flaring, Trixy. For sure that was a bummer to get sick at Thanksgiving. Since you asked: I had a flare-up in March that took a good while to subdue. (Generic Rowasa made it worse-- so gastro advised me to get off the stuff totally.) Carol-- about retirement: I just got notice in the mail that new retirees have to pay 15% more for the monthly Medicare Part B premium than those enrolled as of 2009 or earlier. This seems very arbitrary and unfair! It makes me feel pretty powerless right now. I'm also still waiting for my new enrollment card to arrive because I need it to set-up my Rx insurance transfer. Hopefully, that will get done by the 1st week in Feb. I still feel in a kind of limbo due to procedural delays that are built into the pension systems, both private and govt.-run. The good news, though, is that I'm no longer a slave to my alarm clock in the mornings, yippee to that-- especially now that frigid winter has smacked us!!!!!!! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Oh my Goodness!!! Soooo good to see those names here again :) Sorry you are flaring Trixy but hopefully things will settle down for you really soon. I've been in a constant battle now for over a year.. you are not alone..lol... Let's think good thoughts for each other :)

Bennie, glad to hear that things are stable and you guys are so close together with things. And glad to hear Bratcat is doing so well too!

Here's wishing you all a great 2010 and many HEALING days ahead for all of us :)

Old Hat, bleh, I know what you mean about insurance; our systems suck especially for retirees. I could afford to retire when I'm 55, but when I add up insurance costs its a no-go. Especially for my husband and me together. It's crazy. I wish we would come up with a more affordable solution for people. Well, I could get up on my pedestal, but I guess I'd better stop now before I get carried away. I only wish I had worked for a financial institution. ***Sigh***
