How to get pregnant quickly with Ulcerative Colitis

A friend of mines with UC said that women with UC need to lay down for 15-20mins after intercourse in order to get pregnant-is that true ladies? Any tips on how to get pregnant quicker while having this nasty disease called UC

Again, no, it's not true that any woman need to lay down after intercourse to get pregnant. UC doesn't mess with our reproductive anatomy, so there's no reason that women with UC need to do so.

If you want to increase your chances of getting pregnant, I highly recommend you start charting. Get a copy of the book "Taking Charge of your Fertility" and read it. It's incredibly informative, and teaches you how to chart your cycle, so you know if you're ovulating or not, and even determine when you're about to ovulate.

Some women ovulate earlier in their cycle, and some ovulate later. You don't necessairly ovulate in the middle of your cycle. Mine happend to be freakishly textbook...I had a 28 or 29 day cycle, and ovulated on day 14 or 15. But, that's actually kind of rare!

Another important thing that charting tells you is how long your luteal phase (post-ovulation portion) of your cycle is. If it's on the short side, you'll likely have trouble getting pregnant, as this is when the fetus implants into the wall of the uterus. If this is too short, there's not enough time for the fetus to implant before your peroid begins.

The good thing about charting is that you know so much...if you're ovulating, when you're ovulating, how long your luteal phase is, etc, etc, etc. If all you do is chart your waking temperature, you likely won't be able to determine when you're about to ovulate. But, if you also chart your cervial mucus and position (not nearly as gross as it sounds), you'll have a much better idea of when you're about to ovulate.

Also, remember that even with perfectely timed intercourse, your odds of getting pregnant are only about 30% each cycle.

I still like the idea of charting, just so that you know everything is as it should be with your body.

It does for some women, but not all, so that's not all that reliable. Mine never dipped like that. How I knew I was set to ovulate was that I'd get a lot of what they call "egg white" cervial mucus. It really does look like egg whites, and is the most "sperm friendly" cervial mucus that a woman produces.

Yeah, I perhaps learned a bit too much about fertility by reading that book. But, I'm a science dork, so found it (and the whole charting process) fascinating! I was pretty sure I was pregnant before I even POAS (peed on a stick) because my temperature jumped up when I was about 14 days post-ovulation. :)

Oh, and one more thing...you're not using a lubricant, right? Most lubricants are very sperm-unfriendly. There is one, called PreSeed that does not harm sperm, but any others can kill the little buggers off.

The charting thing def works...and I've also read the book Fruitgirl is talking about.  I actually had a bit of trouble conceiving b/c I wasn't figuring ovulation correctly...I"m not a 'text book' girl in that sense...but with the charting I could see my temperature dip and it worked right away.

the best way to get pregnant is to not try! lol. although it is true that some of the meds can lower your fertility rate, as can some diseases. I read about that is a survival of the fittest thing.
I got pregnant when i was on the pill and not trying, however i had just come off steroids and a flare, so the pill wasnt workign as well then.
