from what I understand usual procedure for uc is asacol, prednisone, 6 mercaptopurine/azathioprine, then remicade or some other trial drug like golimumab

I was on 6mp for quite a while. It didn't effect me at all. I played varsity basketball without and pain or anything.
steroids though, are a whole different story.

when you say you were on 6 mp did it help your symptoms and how did steroids work for you? Also just a couple remicade infusions I thought you had to stay on that consistently

You don't have to be on remicade constantly from what I understand, but from what my GI tells me is that if you use it, stop it, then try it again the less effective it is.

You should be fine, it won't affect your muscles. If you get fatigue, just take it at nighttime and you'll prolly be alright.
Imuran is like 6mp and for me, it's helped me a lot. I don't get any side-effects.

My doctors told me not to strain abdominal muscles. So I stopped almost all what I played (tennis, swimming, etc) and now just walk. The joint pain is also a barrier to cross over. Then, I lost most of my muscles without exercising enough/a lot.
To say the least, I accept being skinny if I can maintain remission.

I'm not an athletic person but just recently I upped my exercise routine and it hasn't affected my muscles in the least. If anything, I tend to get more tired then before but I can't tell you if that is from the 6mp, having Uc itself or just the fact that I am getting older! :)

I am very athletic and work out as much as I can. I didn't see any negative impact from 6MP, just UC itself.
