i went and saw my gastroenterologist yesterday morning... it was just the follow up appt we made 6 weeks ago.
almost forgot about it too.
i am flaring still tho....

anyhoo, he has up my pred back to 25mg to hopefully kick things into action.
then he has me do my usual bloodwork.

he called me that same evening about 5pm saying he got the results and i have to go immediately to the maternity ward at my hospital and get a blood transfusion.
***?? omg!
yes, my hemoglobin count was 69. dangerously low.
they dont want anyone to get lower than 110 he says. omg.

the thing is, i feel okay. i have been anaemic so many times and have had so many iron transfusions, that i thought i would notice. but no, i feel fine.
i look fine. neither him or my ob/gyn thought i looked like a 69. or even anaemic for that matter.
crazy.

so i went in last night and had 2 bags of blood pumped thru me for 10 hours. finally just got home.
the bub is fine and didn't even know what was happening. just managed to kick me the whole time.

last night going to the toilet was horrible wtih lots of blood. i guess ive been losing more than i thought. i must have gotten used to seeing blood and take no notice anymore really.

but this morning, i went again and no blood at all. and almost formed stools.

not sure what that means, but there you go.
craziness all around.

WOW Steph....good thing you didn't forget your initial appointment!

Good to hear you've been "topped up"....hopefully you'll feel a difference even though you say you've been feeling OK regarding the anemia.

Take it easy for a few days!

Oh kazygirl, I'm glad you feel fine, glad they caught it and are acting on it...what a horrible scare that must have been for you. Hope everything gets back in check for you asap.

...Ahh the joys of pregnancy...LITERALLY! It's amazing how our bodies become so resilient during this time...gotts love "Good baby JU-JU"!!

So happy to hear that you are both o.k...hope you can get some rest today.

It's good that you got the transfusion done before your hemoglobin levels dropped even further, and hopefully it should also make you feel better. I had a similar transfusion a couple of years ago and a few days after having it done my symptoms calmed down a bit as well.

How scary! I am so sorry you had to go through that - especially while being pregnant but I am glad that the doctor caught it! I hope your symptoms continue to quiet down. It is tiring enough just being preggers!

nope... not so lucky. it was a one off i guess.
last night and this morning... no poos. just lots of blood and blood clotty looking things.

also a bit gassy. everytime i feel a fart come on i have to run to the can and spray fart blood all over the inside of the bowl.
ggaaah. why oh why? sorry for the visuals....
now im worried everytime i go and wonder how much blood is in there and how low i will get again.

hopefully up'ing the pred to 25mg will kick this in the butt a bit. no pun intended.

Very scary, for sure.  Hopefully the docs will keep close tabs on you now knowing how low the count got.

I hope the new prednisone dose kicks in for you very soon. It sounds like you've been through a lot, especially for being pregnant. Keep us posted and best of luck to you!

just went for blood test today to see if my hemoglobin levels have gone up.

iron is very low so not sure what to do about that.
iron pills make my UC worse. so its a no-win situation there.
not sure if you can have an iron infusion while preggers.

the trials and tribulations hey??!!!!

kazygirl,

how can we stop ourselves from bleeding when using the toilet.  tonight i am going to try the rowasa enemas and see if they do any good.  I will keep you in my prayers and please spread some baby dust over here for me since you know i am in the process of trying to conceive-I am two days late on my menstrual cycle which is not normal since I am a regular period gal, no pregnancy symptoms, and negative pregnancy test-hmm wonder what's up with that.  Is it normal to not feel anything in the beginning of the pregnancy?

i didnt find out til 2 weeks AFTER my period was due.
i had 3 preggers tests .. 2 at dr's office and 1 at the hospital when i was in there to check if i could have an mri.
they all came back negative when i was in fact pregnant at the time.

patience.. even though its hard and the worst word ever at a time like this. but patience.

and yes, i had all symptoms. my boobies hurt, i was tired, i peed a lot, and i had period cramping which is normal for early pregnancy.

Wow, kazygirl, that's incredible! False negatives are pretty rare these days, with how accurate pregnancy tests are. Weird! I got a postive a few days before I was even late, but didn't have any symptoms until I hit the 6 week or so mark. Then it was just tiredness!

i dont think they were false negatives so much as it was too early to tell.
i think its like 7 days after conception and this was right after.

not sure tho... august was blur LOL
