bleeding and pain.

I am now asking in desperation after speaking to my doctor last week and being told she doesn't know what to do.

I am flaring up bad which I haven't done in a long time. I think I often confuse IBS as a flare but now I know the difference.

I am bleeding so much, I wake up in the mornings and I run to the toilet and all I pass is blood. I have a bad ache in my left side which won't go away I also have loose stool which absolutely kills me to pass due to it moving over my sore left side.

My husband is sick to death of it dominating our lives, so much so he tells me last night he feels the love has gone from our relationship. All due to me not being able to control this stupid disease and being one of the unlucky ones who can't tolerate any medicines.

What can I do to stop the bleeding?? I am so tired I have trouble looking after my kids. I am fed up of my kids seeing me in pain everyday. I tried vitamin e enemas with no success and also aloe vera which made things worse.

it's good to know that I am not the only one who suffers with bad bleeding and pain. It is so horrible and it truely is excruciating to pass.

I have started VSL 3 today in hope that it may help. Though took my first sachet mid morning and within an hour I was passing loose stool. Let's hope that it was not related!!

Also still trying vitamin e in an enema and want to try cod liver oil towards the end of the week.

Just wish I could stop the bleeding and loose stool the nausea and pain and have back my life and the close relationship I had with my husband. This disease when flared really does dominate everything.

I am still in the process of trying to conceive and mildly flaring-I cant wait until this blood and loose stool goes away.  I had been thinking about you and hoping that you were well.  I understand your UC is still flaring, but how is the baby doing? 

Have you tried prednisone?? Really, it may get your bleeding under control. You have to do something! Even though it might not be what you want to do. The supplements will not be enough.

I can't take steroids as I have thinning of my bones. My doctor doesn't want to give me remicade and to be honest I would choose surgery over it. My doctor is a joke she told me to eat Manuka honey and take aloe vera.

I have Been here before with no medication and eventually it will ease off but this time I have important stuff going on in my life so this morning I started taking vsl 3 and seven seas Cod liver oil. I am drinking lots of water and eating anti inflammatory foods.

I want to give some alternate things a try but I do get that at some point I will have surgery to rid me of this disease. I am forever in hope that the probiotics maybe my miracle cure!

I have to try because once I have jumped to have my colon removed I don't want to look back and think I wish I had tried harder etc

Quincy, i think maybe you are right, i do need to have surgery, but i can't see my darn doctor actually allowing me to have it.

I do foresee with the next year or so that i will have surgery and i hope that will give me my life back. I have so much going on right now, we have an impending move to Canada within the next month or so, so i am trying anything to get my out of this flare so i can support my husband in his new job in Canada and my kids new lives in a new country. But i am fully aware that i can't and don't want to carry on like this.

I have to have some hope that something will work for me right now, if i don't have hope i don't have much.

We are moving to Dawson creek in british columbia.

I have started VSL 3 probiotics and fish oils today. I have changed my diet but will certainly look at the spinach and sunflower seed diet, as i see a lot of people have had success with it.

I was allergy tested and every was fine. I can't take 5ASA'S purely because they make my symptoms worse, i get chronic stomach pains and vomiting.

I asked my doctor last week for steroid enemas and she refused as she said with thinning bones i should not take that kind of thing. Thats when she suggested Manuka honey and aloe vera!

To be honest with you this evening i am actually feeling a little better! I have no idea if it's because i have changed my diet over the last few days, or if it could be the probiotic, but i have not had the urgency or anywhere near as much bleeding. My husband has been helping me have Vitamin E enemas over the last few days, maybe that is working.

It is a stressful time at the moment, so thats why i think i have flared up, but it will get better, but it's hard to see the light when things are bad.

     I have full blown osteoporosis and still take prednisone.  The doctor isn't thrilled about it but it is the only thing that helps me into remission.  I have had ulcerative proctitis for over eleven years and been treated with all kinds of meds...Asacol then switched to Colazal (which I am still taking), 6MP (which made me very sick and lowered my white count to 1.6), cort enemas, Rowasa, etc.  You name it, I was most likely on it.  I will do everything to hold onto this colon.  I met with one of the top GI surgeons in the tri state area (N.J. Pa and Delaware) and even HE said that the operation is no piece of cake and to exhaust all methods of treatment before going that route.

     I am now on Remicade but presently flaring.  I meet with my GI doctor tomorrow.  He placed me back on the prednisone after being off it only a month.  I took 40 mgm on Friday and then he told me to go back to 20 mgm the next day and to stay on 20 mgm until I see him tomorrow.  He is VERY disappointed that my condition regressed.  I felt terrific after my first two infusions but after the 3rd infusion I experienced symptoms of a stomach virus.  Don't know whether this was an adverse effect of the Remicade or just a stomach bug, but it threw me back into a flare.

Quincy, i take a cod liver oil with Vitamin D and E with omega 3. I am trying to find a calcium tablet that doesn't give me loose stool. I don't take Zinc, but thought about a multi-vitamin.

We are expected to move in March/April time, we are having medicals done next week in London, then have to wait about 3 weeks for the decision on our application.

We don't have family in Canada, we visited Vancouver this time last year and stayed for 8 weeks while my husband was looking for work. Well we loved it out there, and my husband ended up getting a job offer, but we had to return to England to get the paper work sorted. Things have been a bit unsettled in the last year thus i have been suffering from IBS, then after christmas i flared with my colitis. I have to say i haven't flared like this in a long time. I have been confusing my IBS, with colitis, now i realize, how very different a proper flare up is.

Thank you for your input and i do totally agree with you about the surgery. I shall try the alternate treatments that i want to try and see if it makes a difference, if not then i know what i have to do.
