I'm completely new to this forum chat thing. I've lately been having a tough time dealing with my Colitis and I have a hard time talking to my friends about it. It's not that they won't listen, it's just that I feel like they don't know what to say and I also don't feel 100% comfortable talking to them about it. I'm a seventeen year old girl and I'm looking for someone my age that I can relate to. I just think it would be nice to talk to someone who understood what I was going through. I'm not entirely sure how one would go about contacting me, but feel free to do so.

Hey Zed92,

I had a really hard time talking to my friends too. They tried understanding, but its difficult because they don't really understand the pain and frustration we face. The forum is really helpful though. You can learn so much info, get some good laughs, and reassurance that you aren't alone.

There are also Crohns/Colitis groups on Facebook. You may be able to find someone who is your age that you can "friend" to talk with. They also have discussion forums but they are not as active as this one and not just for colitis.

I have found that sometimes I don't need my friends to say anything.  I just need to talk and have them listen.  Keep your sense of humor about everything because it makes things easier.  My best friend was there for both of my scopes, even doing the "prep" with me last year if you can believe it.  All of my friends and I joke about my "issues" even though we all know that it is serious.  My offer stands if you want to chat online one on one.  I may be a lot older than you but it might help you.  I am around teenagers everyday because of my job and I think of them as "my kids".  They all know about my UC and all of them ask questions about it and they are all so compassionate when they know what is going on with me. 

 

Be honest with people about UC.  It helps them understand when they know what is going on.  You are not alone.  This forum has been good for me even if all I do at times is read the hundreds of posts.......There are times when I feel so hopeless, helpless and alone and I sign in here and read what is going on in everyone else's lives and it helps me deal with what is going on in my life.

Beeswax - thanks for your advice, I'll go checkout facebook as well.

BCGirl - I would like to talk to you one on one sometime, is there anyway I we can exchange e-mail addresses without it being public? I don't really get how this all works.

I don't really know how it all works yet myself.  But if you look at my profile (click on my username) it will show my email address (I will add it right now).  You can add me on msn if and when you feel comfortable.  I will only show my email for a short time though so write it down :-) .......

I am also on facebook but personally I did not find their groups all that helpful but you might.
