I am on Lialda (which is similar to asacol). I am currently almost 9 weeks pregnant. My GI suggested I stop taking the Lialda during the first trimester which turned out to be very bad advice. I was in remission when I got pregnant but went into a terrible flare at about
6 weeks pregnant. I was so worried about
the baby and about
my health because the flare came on quickly (one day I was fine and the next
SICK). I thought I was going to end up in the hospital I felt so bad and was so dehydrated. My Ob/GYN and my primary care doctor both told me to go back on my Lialda. My GI still did not want me to take it...even though I was have 10-12 watery and bloody BM's a day! My OB/GYN and Primary doctors said a bad flare can be more harmful to the baby and the mother when pregnant than the medication. I am actually changing GI's due to his lack of knowledge concerning pregnancy and UC. SO - from my experience, I would suggest following your GI's recommendation and staying on the Asacol.
