Anybody experiencing hair loss with the drugs?

I have naturally super thick hair anyway so when I started 6mp, I didn't mind losing some of it! :) It came out in multiple strands, not clumps really but after I was on 6mp for about 3-4 months or so, the hair loss stopped.

I take Asacol and do have some hair shedding too. Extra Folic Acid and if you can tolerate it Biotin will help to stop it. Good luck!

Just came accross this posting.  Have probably had UC for app. 18 years, but diagnosed 10 years ago.  Have been on Asacol for the last 10 years, taking 12 pills a day for the last year.  Have always had hair shedding in the last 10 years, but have had extreme hair loss in the last 8 months. My hair is coming out in strands, from the root.  Have tried Nioxin, but it seemed to make it worse.  Am noticing eyelashes falling out also.  Have been taking biotin for last 8 months.  Can't tolerate vitamins, but try to eat a nutritionally balanced diet.  Hair left (probably have lost half of my hair in the last 8 months) is dry & feels like straw.  I have been dealing with UC for many years, have always tried to have a positive attitude, but this is really hard for me to deal with.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks.

I've been on both Asacol and Imuran. Asacol solidly caused hair loss for me and it was very drastic too. I got off of that quick!

Now I'm on Imuran for the second time...I originally got off of it because I thought it was causing hair loss but then found out it wasn't the Imuran because it was still falling out after I stopped. I'm on it again...the hair loss is just a side effect of this disease for me at this point, I think. It's not coming out in clumps but it's so thin nwo and just comes out all the time.

I've started wearing wigs. I hate that I have to. I know, like someone else already said, this disease sucks so much and there is so much that we deal with but this hair loss is one of the hardest things, even though it really is harmless compared with the rest of the symptoms. :(

I've been losing hair for over a year. I don't know if it's the Remicade or Colazal. I never lost hair when I was on Asacol, so I switched back to that just in case it was the Colazal causing hair loss.

Luckily, my hair used to be really thick so it doesn't look like I'm losing a lot (except to me!). I'm using TheraPro shampoo and biotin. Sometimes it seems like they're helping, other times not.

I also lost hair when on Asacol. I started boosting my intake of iron and vitamin D and I started getting new hair growth. I also switched to Lialda and hair continued to grow (weird since Lialda has the same stuff as Asacol) ... I am tempted to try this hair therapy I have heard about called Innovations hair cell therapy but it galls me to spend $100 buck on my hair ... right now, the texture of my hair is different than before

Very strange, was diagnosed with UC in 99, for the brief period that I was on it I never experienced hair loss, just headaches, and tenderness around my stomach area just below the xyphoid process. I did however lose hair from imuran at 150mg/day. This was noticeable mainlly in the shower when when shampooing and my hand looked like I had petted and  wet dog in the shedding season. Fortunately not enough hair loss to create bald patches, just felt very thin and whispy. Over time my body adapted to it and I have my thick hair back which seems to require a hair cut every 2 weeks because it grows so quick, as I've noticed an increase in my arm hair as well, no Robin Williams, but hairy enough. I am still on same dose of Imuran. Although everyone reacts differrently, just wanted to let you know that sometimes it just takes a while for you to adapt and overcome. As professionals have said that it takes 3-4 weeks for imuran levels to build in your system so I am assuming that after your levels have reached their plateau, the side effects should alleviate. Well that was my two cents, hope it helps.
