Piercings and Imuran.

Hi everyone, I have not posted here in a long time! I'd like to think that is a good thing since I've been in remission since October 2008!!! Though I occasionally lurk to see how people are doing.

Anyway, I've wanted my eyebrow pierced for a long time and am trying to work up the courage. But it occurred to me today that since I'm on Imuran getting one might be bad idea. Does anyone know if it's okay to get a piercing while on an immunosuppressant?

not sure about piercings, but I have had numerous tattooes while on Imuran, & had no issues with healing. I would think a piercing would heal even quicker than a tattoo, since it's one small concentrated injury, as opposed to a large area of the body. Go to a reputable place! and have fun!

I got about 15 piercings while on imuran and remicade this summer ( was manager of a tattoo and piercing shop) and It didn't cause me any trouble. Healing was fine. Its a touchy situation because piercings , when made the wrong way, or when not cared for properly ( never put spectro gel or alcohol or peroxyde on it, it slows healing! the best stuff is saline solution, the same thing we use to clean contact lenses, and buy it in a sterile vaporizer type bottle) can take A LONG WHILE to heal. Make sure you go to a professionnal shop, where the staff is qualified and ask them to show you their autoclave and sterilization room. Conch, tragus, rook and belly button piercings take more time to heal. Eyebrow should not cause you much trouble, but be very carefu not to touch it , never! :) And don't change your jewelry before a month !

I got my navel pierced 2 1/2 months ago and it's healing nicely (takes at least 3-4 months to heal completely). I haven't had any problems with it and would get another piercing again! Best of luck to you!

A friend had hers done, & it was the biggest hassle re. healing- it took FOREVER to heal, quite painful, & she had to clean it like twice a day. I mean, she couldn't even go on a camping trip because she had to be closer to actual facilities, know what I mean? It seriously impacted her life for a long time- way not worth it, in my opinion. I think she used band-aids over them for ages, due to sensitivity. But I find them really sexy on guys, pierced nipples, & really gross on women! I don't know about breastfeeding & nipple piercings, if that has any effect.

Just be really careful not to bump it lol, I got mine done and was driving home with the window open. I told my friend, "My luck, something's going to fly in the window and hit me in the ear." And it did lol. It also got bumped more than that.

Normally I don't like nipple piercings on girls, but I think they look okay on small boobs, which I have (lucky me). XD I think I'll decide later and opt for a tattoo first. Good luck, I say go for it. Just take good care of it and it'll be fine.

Good to know about the tattoos. I have been wanting to get something honoring my daughter and just went on Imuran, so maybe that will be in the cards for me this year! :o)
