My advice? Do it!
i know how scary it is, i have been there. Wasted 8years of my life, trying, for some reason, to keep a colon that didnt want me! And when i woke up, from surgery, i felt clean, i wasnt sick anymore!
Finally i had had it, i was missing my son's life, the idea of sitting at a tball game, or in a car line at school was terrifying to me, and i knew i couldnt do it. So i said, im getting this thing out! Dr talked me into remi, stupid decision, i went back and said, either you find someone to take this thing out, or i will (meaning i will take it out myself, and i actually meant that). I had gotten to the point before this that i hope for toxic megacolon so i wouldnt have to make the decision.
However, im soooo glad i did it! is the most fun thing in the world to have a bag, no,but is it bad. not at all! very convenient at times, lol. I chose the perm ileo which alot of people dont. But it hought that was better for me
I have a 4 year old, he was almost 2 when i had surgery, and now i can do anythin with him i want, whenever i want! UC pain is all gone, meds are all gone, no more wondering what the sideeffects are or whether they would fail.
Most of the side symptoms of UC are gone, however the effects from the pred are still noticeable, like bad knees, although its getting better.
Point of my rambling story, things might not be perfect after surgery, they probly wont be, it will hurt and it will be annoying at first. But once you get the hang of it and off teh pain meds, you will feel better. And i still, everyday, find some stupid little thing that makes me happy i did this!
good luck!
