In my case, I had mucus and blood before I was diagnosed, but once my GI put me on sulfasalazine, it went away. I struggled with painful gas, bloating, and constipation but never had D. After a year on sulfa, I started getting loose stools and then decided to start the SCD diet in 2007. That really worked great for me (no meds, no symptoms) until I got some IV antibiotics last year. Since then, I have had intermittent B and one irritated spot (ulcer, I'm assuming) with no other symptoms. Going back on sulfa, diet mods, nothing helped. Canasa helped for awhile, then the B started again a few months after stopping the Canasa. It doesn't get really bad, just some B with every BM, which is usually just 1-2 per day, well-formed. about
a month ago, I started Canasa twice a day and it finally stopped after a couple of weeks. But I can still feel a slight bit of irritation right at the end of the rectum, so I'm trying some Cortifoam to see if that pushes me over the edge to 100% healing.
It seems weird to me that my symptoms have changed so much in the 4-1/2 years I've had UC, but I guess it's not unusual to require increasingly stronger meds to get into remission?
