I have a comfort zone that I like to stay in. I get anxious outside of that zone. One thing that can trigger anxiety is traveling. I hate to travel with people that are not family members or close friends. I had an uncle to die in another state. I need to travel to another state about a three hour drive for the funeral. I have been sick at my stomach all day just thinking about it. Plus I have chronic epstein barr mono. Since I feel stress, my mono symptoms are also coming back. I don't know what to do about the anxiety. Any suggestions?

Have you discussed an anti-anxiety medication with your doctor? I think there are some that you can take just when you need them! I'd also consider Yoga, massage and acupuncture. I know they sound a little new agey but I have found them all helpful for managing stress.

I am exactly the same, I dont like to go too far with people I dont know ... hey I dont even like to go to peoples places for coffee unless they are close friends or family!!!! I have just started taking an anti anxiety pill as my anxiety is really affecting my life and making my uc symptoms worse ! I always worry im going to need the loo when theres not one around !!!!

The only other thing you could do is not go to the funeral ? ?

I am feeling better today. I think I got a stomach bug that has been going around. I am just weak today & have a major headache (which is part of my epstein barr symptoms. Hopefully by this afternoon, things will be better. I do have Klonipin but really don't like to take it unless it is a have to case. I don't like how I feel when I take it.

I took a couple anti-anxiety medications and did not like the way I felt until I tried Xanax.  It makes me feel great - takes edge off anxiety but does not alter my feelings, etc.

I understand, too. Traveling with family -- even who knew my health situation or were in separate cars -- would make me miserable and once even brought on a panic attack (unconsolable crying) even before we got on the road! Even short trips with friends or coworkers were miserable experiences, even though I would hide it.

Do you have any control how you make the trip? Can you drive yourself, travel on your terms?

I find Xanax works well on an as needed basis too. Plus it's cheap. Generic version costs $10 at local Walmart

     Xanax works for me too.  I only seem to need it while on prednisone.

Excusing yourself from attendance at the funeral does not seem unreasonable to me. If you make a round-trip in one day you face 6 hours in transit. If you stay over there, it brings the need for additional arrangements that could mess with your health. If going there makes you feel fearful or frazzled, it's not going to help the other mourners, either. There are alternatives for commemorating the deceased if one cannot be present for the funeral service. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

I so agree with not going to the funeral.  You said it was an Uncle.  Actually, I never have felt an obligation to go to a funeral.  I had a young cousin drown and I told my Mom - no way - can't handle it!  I know what I can and can't handle!  That was way before UC.

I wrote a very nice letter to my Aunt with some pictures of us and that worked out fine!

my therapist heard that imperamine[spelling ?] is good for U.C-anxiety.Anyone have experience with it?
