I think I may have a sinus infection and I really really don't want to take antibiotics and kill off all of my building flora.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks

I feel your pain - I made the mistake of taking a Z-pack with my last sinus infection and ended up on a round of Flagyl (did NOTHING) and ultimately had to go on pred to kick the flare.
If you don't have a full-blown infection you might be able to use a sinus wash for a few days to see if that helps. I buy a saline wash that I've been using periodically when I start to feel a bit stuffy and so far (fingers & toes crossed!) no infection has crept in.
Good luck!

Maybe you could try a neti pot - I have used them with success. You can find "how to" videos on You Tube. At this point most main line pharmacies sell them.

Sudafed (I suggest the PE) for sure to help keep sinuses
open as well as guaifenesin that's found in Mucinex (wish we had it in Canada).
Drink lots of fluids and I ditto the neti pot suggestion.
do NOT take anything with antihistamines or nyquil or cough suppressants.
You could consider to take L Lysine, beta glucan, zinc, vitamin A and C
Hope you feel better soon,

Sudafed works for me.

Why no antihistamines, Nyquil, or cough suppressants? Is that something to do with UC or is it more to do with sinus infections?
Thanks

Clarintin-D works for me. The "D" is the decongestant. Only take it in the AM it will keep you awake at night otherwise.

The others will dry up the secretions and make your infection WORSE. The point is to make everything more liquid,
open and easy to expel.
If your coughing is really bad, get Sucrets DM...take them when necessary, but they're a low dosage and helps.
You need the expectorants....and for pain, take tylenol.

Just over a gnarly sinus infection myself. I too avoided antibiotics as long as possible. My doctor told me that with my level of phlegm, I should be using the neti-pot 8 times a day! I also made sure the bedroom was really humidified (had to wipe down the walls and windows in the morning with a towel). I also used inhaled colloidal silver. All of this helped, but I still had to go on a very mild antibiotic (can't remember the name, but it was only 5 days). I was paranoid, but it worked out fine. Take lots of probiotics.
Hope you feel better.

Well shucks, before I saw Quincy's post, I took Nyquil and had a decent night of sleep, but as I just found out, I didn't do myself any good. I got some sudafed this morning and have been on the neti pot today. The problem is just on one side, so hopefully I can fight this thing on my own - it doesn't seem too bad at this point.
Thanks for all of the help!

LOL...it's great for sleeping!
I have a cold now too as of yesterday. I've never ever gone this long without one. I'm humbly doing all of the above except the steaming or neti yet.
So far, the worst symptom is the tickling cough that doesn't get relieved easily and a slight heaviness in my chest. Hope it doesn't get any worse...ugh.
I have taken the cough suppressant during last night and tonight, plus a few of the losenges. But, I must say I hate colds.
Hope you feel better soon,
quincy
