Tell me about Sulfasalazine

I have been on Asacol since I was diagnosed in September and am now switching to Sulfasalazine because of the Asacol side effects. 

Have you had any side effect on?  Did it work for you? 

Also, we are going on a warm weather trip and it says that I have to stay out of the sun.  I am a sun baby and this is the highlight of my trip (I know it is horrible, but I live in the tundra with 3 feet of snow right now).  Has anyone had a really bad reaction to the sun on this med?

I should probably try it because it is so much cheaper than other mesalmine drugs but sort of chicken.

From what I have read the sun sensitivity thing doesn't occur in everyone and is similar to that caused by advil and other NSAIDs. You should be taking folic acid supplements. The sulfa portion of the drug does cause reactions in 1/3 of those that take it. Those that can tolerate it do just as well as those on more expensive mesalmine drugs according to a clinical trial (from the UK?) I read.

No side effects I notice. I ignore the photo sensitive warning. I started on this years ago. Switched to asacol, switched to colazal, switched to lialda, back to sulfasalizine.
