How long before pred kicks in???

Have been on colifoam 6 weeks, predfoam 2 weeks and pred for a week, when does the blood stop. I have no cramping no D all i have is a little urgency but loads of blood mucus about halved but more concerned re stopping blood

Any ideas please

Prednisone works relativley quick for me. I've been on it solid for awhile now but if I see blood and cant get it to stop any other way even a small increase like 2.5mg over just 1-2 days will usually take care of it.

I don't really know the answer to your question, but, it seems to me that if you're having that much blood, it could take a while for it to heal enough to stop. My GI used to say that often the bleeding was the last thing to stop. If the cramping and D are better, that's good....

I guess my hunch would be to give it at least another week before thinking you'd see much improvement, but other folks maybe have more wisdom on this than I.

What dosage of pred are you on?  Last summer I went to my GP for a flare and he prescribed me 15mg.  This did nothing for me.  Eventually I went to my GI and was prescribed 40mg.  In about two days things got better, but the pred never did get me into remission.  I just got off of it about ten days ago.  Keeping my fingers crossed....

It didn't work for me. It wasn't until I went to the hospital and was on the IV drip, with no food for a week, and a steroid enema that I saw results in my BMs (the sigmoidscope found no ulcerations after being on the steroid for three weeks, though it was extremely painful and I was having 15-20 bloody BMs/day). I honestly think the enema did more than the oral/IV steroid.

I have just started my secon course of pred, last year I had my first when I was really flaring badly throughout my colon, It took just over 2 weeks to kick in, i was going on holiday and the day before I went I felt alot better, I got to the villa and every morning I would poop about 3 times and that was it for the day till the evening then I might need to go a bit. It didnt put me into remission but I went from 12+ bms a day to 5 ... now im on about 8 times a day and hoping this second lot of steroids will kick it ... ive got my fingers crossed that it will atleast get it to a copable point!!! xx

ps I bleed quite a bit, try and add iron to your diet ...in foods.. lots of greens etc ..
