hello

I am a regular viewer of these forums they have helped me alot with my struggle with UC.


Forums dont really do it for me when it comes to communicating with other ppl which is why this is my first post.

The reason for this post is i had an idea today about setting up an IRC channel so ppl can can join and talk about problems,how they feel,ask for advice or just relax and talk about normal things.

If you feel like checking it out feel free to join it in on Quakenet channel name of (edited)

If you need help connecting or are unsure of what IRC is please read the FAQ below...

Quakenet is nearly always in the list of networks within a client just select it from the client and type /join (edited)

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm glad that you've been reading and have gained a lot from the forum.

I am not sure if Peter, the forum administrator, will be OK with this post or not, as it somewhat breaks the rule about spam. I have sent him a message asking, but in the meantime, I am going to remove the information about how to connect to the IRC channel. If he's ok with it, I'll go back and add it in.

ok fair enough :)

I can see it in that light. i have however tried to use the chat function on this website but ppl dont seem to use it.

Which is why i came up with the idea.

If you'd like to set up chats, I'm pretty sure that you can suggest a date and time that you'll be on, and hope that others join in. I don't think it's something that only mods can do (ie, suggest a chat), but I'm sure one of the more seasoned mods will be along shortly to answer that question. As far as I know, nobody has set up a chat the year and few months that I've been a member on here.

Well if my idea isnt allowed as such maybe HealingWell could setup an irc channel.

Id be happy to join that and help out if needed.

As most if not all of us know keeping appointments can be hard.

We used to have scheduled chats but the participation was low so it was cancelled but I agree that you are more then welcome to announce a time and date of a chat session.

I don't mean to be rude, but if you don't think chat on here would work, then why do you think an IRC channel would be any different?

ok fair question Fruitgirl...

the chat on here relies as you said on keeping an appointment.

UC can make keeping important appointments difficult.

irc is different you log on and stay in the channel when you are able to chat you start chatting and any other ppl that are there can reply.

there is no appointment no organisation everyone who wants to be there is already connected

yes sometimes nothing can be said for hours at a time but ppl are all there in a way its a bit like a forum as you can see what has been recently said but you can have real time conversations

Well, if you log in here, and see someone you'd like to chat with, you can always ask them if they'd like to, then use the chat function on here. It doesn't have to be set up ahead of time, as far as I know. I just suggested you could set them if you'd like, because I know they have scheduled chats on other forums.

yes i can see how that would work ... but it still requires having to ask someone and if i wanted to talk to multiple ppl id have to message all those ppl aswell

so id send out say 5 messages if i wanted to talk to 5 ppl then wait for a reply
those people then could be busy at that time and suggest a time .. we fall into organisation again.

i am not saying its a bad system but id find having to do that a bit of a pain and maybe others would too.

ive used irc for years and it is a far more user friendly way to chat.

i know you are tying to be helpfull and its a matter of taste ... forums are resticted and slow and the chat system on here is unused and does require organisation in most cases

irc doesnt have any of that ... i turn on my computer and start my irc client it connects to the rooms i like and i sit there and join in any conversations that are already going,start a conversation and wait for a reply or i sit and read whats being said.

IRC = marriage for me. Met my hubby in a chat room 13 years ago.... I love IRC!
