Joint pain - anyone?

It is SO bad right now. WHAT can I do??? sad I am in my thirties and I feel like I'm in my eighties.

Mine's not just joints, but muscles and tendons also. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist next month to try to find out what I can do.

My left leg (ankle, knee) has some pain sometimes, especially when walking. After UC, I seldom can run/swim/play tennis. Joint pain may be a result of UC, but not necessarily. If it is the result of UC, I suggest walking, and 'bathing' the joint(s) in warm water.

I got joint pain too. I go to a rheumatologist and he said I have IBD related arthritis

Hi...I completely understand what you're going through. I am in my thirties as well and have IBD related arthrities. Honestly, being on prednisone helps it. I am on 20 mg right now for a flareup of my colitis and my arthritis started flaring as well. There isn't much you can do except see your doctor and get lots of rest. I hope you feel better! I also had joint pain and my family doc said that was part of UC. He said he learned in med school the three: iritis, arthritis,colitis.
It is a symptom of inflammation occurring in different areas outside the colon unfortunately. No family history of arthritis.

Since starting the SCDiet I don't have joint pain except in lower back but less than before. I never had iritis.

Thanks everyone. Do you think I should see my GI doctor or just go to a rheumatologist? I am starting to flare right now. I always notice that the joint and muscle pain acts up then too.

i would go to the GI first and try to get the flare under control (rowasa, cortenema, new meslamine medicine) typically when the flare is under control the joint pain is under control.....i have severe joint inflammation/pain from my colitis, and i went on Humira to help it....it worked for a while but now we are going to try different things....My Rhuemy said that it was Coltis induced arthritis...but i totally understand you. im sitting here writing with my knee as big as a grapefruit, and i am 29 years old.....the arthritis sucks worse than the colitis in my opinion and the bad part about this is that i suck down advil all day long, which is the worse thing i could do, but its the only thing that makes it bearable....good luck

I'm 3 1/2 weeks free of pred after 15 months, doing ok, the UC is at a manageable stage, and I'm OK with that, but....

my joints are killing me, awful shoulder pain, not sure if it's muscle or joint, both are giving me problems, hands and hips hurt also

going to a rheumatologist on Wednesday.....seems to never end....Geez

Right before I was Dx'd with UC in Dec 1999 I had some incredible painful arthritis flare ups. It would come on in my foot or wrist, it started out like it was falling asleep and progress to all out pain and almost cripple me up. My first GI said that the Asacol would probably help treat the arthritic processes that come with UC/IBD, and maybe it has...I have had a few flares with the arthritis over the years but they have subsided for the most part...thank God!!

My hips KILL me at night. I recently had xrays with no signs of arthritis (thank goodness.) But I can't get over the fact that I'm in my 20's & ACHE! If I sit wrong on my legs for a while, I have a hard time bending my feet/ankles to come down the stairs... so wierd!
