New experiences: Vomit + D = Worst flare ever!!!

So, I just started my second ever flare in 5 years... and it's back with a vengance! I Just wanted to share & see if anyone has had similar second flare like this or has any suggestions.

My first flare started much, much slower. It took almost a whole year to get from a little blood and D untill it eventruly progressed into major symptoms which got me hospitalized. 10 days, 2 blood Transfusions, 1 Remicade injection later... then full remission for 3 years starting in 2007.

Fast forward to 2010... The last couple of months I had dropped my maintence Asacol dose to 4 per day and kinda fell off the diet/stress level wagon which may have got me to where I am now. This time, within a week I was going 10-15 times a day and am now experiencing extreme pain and nausea. My doc put me on 40mg prednisone, but it only helped a little. The final draw was when I was actually on the pot bleeding & D and then ended up vomiting at the same time. Worst experience of my life. Now I'm in the hospital on IV steroids. I have improved some... I'm down to about 5 trips & less blood, but I'm still alot pain even with tons of Morphine. My doc wants to release me tommorow. I'll be glad to get outta here, but at the same time I'm scared that I'm not actually in remission will have a hard time at home. Thanks for hearing me out and I appriciate any comments you might have! :)

That does sound awful! I would be worried about being released with pain that is not eased with morphine. Has your doctor figured out what is causing so much pain? I have never had vomiting with a flare.

Yeah, it's a real bummer but I'm getting through it. I kinda thought these were weird symptoms to be having with UC. I guess this is a pretty bad case. I see my doc tommorow, so we'll see!

     I am surprised you only had 1 Remicade infusion.  Any reason why you stopped?

So sorry for your being so ill! My son had vomiting with his initial flare of pancolitis. I feel for you....
keep us posted as to how you're doing!

My major symptoms were vomiting, fevers, and diarrhea.  UC runs the gamut of symptoms.  I never had abdominal pain or cramping.

I stopped Remicade because I went into full remission right away. It was actually the very next day and I didn't get sick again at all for 3 years. I like to avoid drugs if at all possible but I was able to control it with maintenance Asacol. Now I'm back flaring and we are again talking about Remicade, but my doc said it can be dangerous since Ive only had one dose but have been exposed to it before. I don't quite understand how that works. I'm feeling better today and I'm praying that my IV steroid I'd finally kicking in. We'll see!

Did he check you for C.Diff? When I wax exposed to CDiff was the only time I started vomiting. If you're in the hospital i imagine he tested you, but I'd make sure.

I got a negative C-Diff result yesterday. My symptoms have improved and I think that I may be at a turning point. I'm not sure if I have acheived full remission, but I'm getting there. I still have blood and D going on, but less overall and a whole lot less pain. I had some nausea today, but I'm pretty much off of morphine. My doc took me off of IV and I'm now tapering with oral prednisone, down to 80mg from the 100mg I was on with the IV. We're talking about release from the hospital tommorow!!! I can't wait to get home and continue my battle with my hubby and cats by my side. ;) Thanks for the support, I'll keep you updated.
