Uncle thinks he can cure my uc

Just throwing my 2 cents worth in.... traditional medicine did nothing for me but treat symptoms. It was only by experimenting and changing my diet/life lifestyle that healed me and my gut. I am not saying your uncle would "cure" you, but I think there is a thumbprint, if you will, for everyone. You just need to find it. I did by experimenting with an antifungal diet/natural supplements and suprisingly (never thought it would work) got well. I was angry then that my MANY doctors had never suggested such a simple, less costly treatment, then realized they are only educated in treating symptoms with prescription drugs. They even balked at me when I told them what I did! Sometimes you need to take your health into your own hands.

As an aside, the sweating out toxins is not far-fetched.  Patients with mycotoxin diseases have been helped by such therapies. Would need to do more than just that, in my opinion, however.

I don't mind sharing my story, but it is perhaps not apropos to do it tagged onto this post. You may email me if you wish for more details, but the gist of the information I discovered and eventually followed is on the website I have since researched published articles and found there can be a fungal etiology to UC symptoms, among other diseases. The phase one diet can be found under Resources tab, then resource categories sidebar -FAQ's on that website. There is no magic pill. Takes a serious decision/commitment to experiment with the diet for a few weeks. If your symptoms improve, (not necessarily 100% well) then you will know the cause, and can keep going on the path to wellness. I stayed on the phase 2 diet for probably 5 months. I am a careful eater now, and eat most foods again, in moderation. Taking natural antifungal supplements, or even prescription antifungals, like diflucan, is key. Diet alone may not be enough, depending on the severity of your disease.

The yeast thing is very interesting. I think the skin inflammation I had back in my 30s could have been the result of yeast. I eventually kept a food journal and found out that this cheese bread I was buying from the bakery was feeding the inflammation. I used to eat the bread every day. I stopped eating all bread and cheese, and that's how the inflammation finally went away. After every couple of years, I would try eating bread and cheese with little luck. Finally, after some 10 years, I could eat bread and cheese again.

I know you didn't Kim. No worries....just have to keep things in sync. You too have a wonderful Easter!

I have more luck with diet and supplements so far and just half a dosage of Sulfasalazine. The new hard core drugs worked only for a short time then caused me to get worse and worse until I stopped them.
So if you are constantly flaring on and off so bad you need steroids while on Asacol, maybe it is time to try another approach. Some natural doctors are scam artist I know, but you can do your own research on this board alone and experiment.

Yah. Sometimes I'm on the other side, trying to give advice to people who won't listen. My boyfriend's parents are so anti-alternative treatments. They will only do what their doctors tell them, and unfortunately it's only take this medication and get this surgery. They are in poor health, especially his mom. It's so hard for me to see them. Not so much because they are in such poor health, but because their attitudes influence my boyfriend's.

And so does mine. But then we do yoga, get massages, and see chiropractors.

Have any of them ever done yoga, gone to get a massage, gone to see a chiropractor? Nope. They all say chiropractors are shenanigans, and they have no interest in doing yoga or getting a massage. Thankfully, my boyfriend's back is straighter than his parents', but he will sometimes hurt his back from lifting something heavy. I've been trying very hard to get him to see a chiropractor. But he won't. In his mind, they are all shenanigans.

For me, I know it was the antibiotics. I wouldn't have gotten this disease if it wasn't for all the antibiotics I have taken. On top of it, I just realized recently that colon surgery may not be an option for me. I know what will happen if I get my colon removed. Proctitis - antibiotics - proctitis. I'm feeling very depressed at the moment

I think it is a shame that you have let the word 'cure' stop you from taking the opportunity to move forward to a different place ie being open to a new way of seeing.

I understand that you have to work yet our health is paramount.

UC is definitely unique to each of us, yet I think that if an ulcer in my mouth is temporary why can't it be temporary in my colon?....

I have found most if not all 'alternative' things I have tried have had positive effects on me.

I don't expect to be cured but I expect to be comfortable and calm and to learn from this curve ball that life has thrown me.

I hope you can get over your resistance as to allow yourself some surrendered healing and care from somebody who obviously loves you - 3 months in his hands! I'd jump at that - Sounds like a lifetime opportunity to grow, change and develop. But if it is not your cup of tea so be it......

Our conditions are quite individual. There is no universal way to get into remission. I know someone who's been in remission ever since she became a vegetarian and started cooking many Indian foods. Perhaps it's the turmeric that keeps her in remission. It helps me. However, I also know it doesn't help everyone. But that doesn't mean it isn't worth a try. Better to try and fail than to not try at all, assuming of course that it doesn't cost much money, isn't bad for the health, and makes some logical sense.

It's a shame the whack jobs scare (or annoy) so many people away from trying alternative healing methods. In my experience, it was a combination of meds, diet and natural supplements that have helped me maintain remission for so long. I wish all UCers would at least research how natural approaches can support traditional methods to bring about healing. But one of the whack jobs quoted here was correct: in most cases, you won't hear about any natural or alternative approaches from your gastro.

Im sorry you are feeling bad but maybe you don't want colon surgery after all. it's pretty radical solution.

how are you going? are you in remission? are you in trouble right now? Maybe if you are in remission you can just eat liquid meals/porridge and take heaps of probiotics at first sign of trouble? and eat some worms? see how it goes?

I keep seeing things about de-wormers... I thought those were only for animals. Who de-worms their kids?? (unless they have a real problem I guess)

I do understand that theory, although I don't think it's what my problem is.
