What UC symptoms do you have even while in remission?

Hey Onebumgut, I guess I still get urgency one in a while. Not bad, but sometimes I just have to go. Also, if I eat more food than normal, the next day I'll have more bm's; which means from a normal two to maybe four or six.

I would second on the gas pains occasionally, or a bit of uncomfortableness on my left side if I eat say something terrible like pizza or hotdogs. ;) But I think that might be for everyone!

After I went into remission is when I starting getting gas pains...BAD. I get them way up in my chest so that it hurts when I breathe. What I do is lay on my left side. I don't know how but it works out the gas into one big toot. If I'm in public I'll take a phayzme and hope for the best.
I still have bad days, but the majority are good. I go anywhere from 0 to 4 times a day. I still get urgency and d but that could also be due to lactose intolerance and/or IBS. I just don't think my digestive system will ever be the same.

Oh and I only got mild gas discomfort(never had real pain) after being diagnosed and rarely unless I am taking large dosages of Asacol(4.8 gr.) or using Canasa.The only pain I got during the flare was rectal burning and hemorrhoid pain. Canasa stopped my bleeding fast but every time I use it I fart like crazy, get mild discomfort on both left and right side and even looser stools. Yogurt and lots pscillium husk gives me plenty of gas but zero discomfort. I consider this good gas. :)

I am not paying for a colonscopy to find out if I am in true remission. I will spend the money on supplements and better food instead. All I have at this point is mild rectal burning if I eat certain things and soft sometimes floating stools. No real urgency and I go 1-3 times a day(which was normal before I got UC).

Jaybee? Remission as defined as symptom free -- without meds? I think you have to be a lifer with the meds and experience remission that way. Maybe I'm not understanding you.

Funny this thread came up today, I was about to post my question related to this. I don't have any bleeding or D for some time now, but still have gas and urgency. I have frequent BM's with a lot of urgency. Every time I go, it's a lot of gas and little, well formed, stool. No blood, no D. I made some Korean pancake for brunch today and started having gases later. By late afternoon, I was going every 1/2 an hour. Lot of gas and some stool. No blood or D. Finally I took 2 Lomotils to slow it down. I don't consider myself in remission, because I still need to be aware of where the nearest restroom is. And I am always worried passing gas that I might pass something else along. LOL! During night I often pass gas (very loud.... my neighbors are going to start complaining soon) without any accidents. But when I am vertical, I always feel like I will have an accident if I try to pass gas. I am just too scared to take a chance.

Any thoughts?

I just came out of a pretty solid remission. I am not one of the lucky ones either because I can't seem to stay in remission for very long. This last remission lasted a good year which is a new record for me. But my remission was proven via colonoscopy. I had no sign of Uc and in fact my GI stated that my colon has never looked healthier. However, I was still having some issues. I was still having random D and cramping. But I was not bleeding, I didn't have that urgency nor the left sided pain. I think it's all so very individualistic that we have to go by our own terms of remission really is.

My GI has commented that there are two kinds of remission: symptomatic remission and scope-wise, microscopic remission.
I feel as if I'm in remission now, but I am not being scoped to prove it, lol

To address the question of the post, the occasional bout of multiple poops, gas pains or noise, urgency - I think any of these can happen to anyone, in remission or non-UC, depending on too much food or different food, a stressful situation, etc. So when I'm feeling asymptomatic but have one episode of any of these, I try to view it as part of being normal. (My husband has all these things once in a while...!)

I saw this definition a long, long time ago. Somehow I had just assumed everyone else had looked up the definition too.

Thanks JayBee. It is great to think I am close to remission. Hoping one day soon I will not have to worry about the restrooms all the time.
We all must have a sense of humor to survive emotionally. I know I would have gotten clinically depressed had I not been able to laugh out at a lot of these things...

Thanks for welcoming me. I have been reading the messages for some time now, but joined in recently (I didn't think I had much to contribute). I can't thank you guys enough about all the info, and the tips you share, and above all giving me the right perspective on my own situation.

My butt never quite heals up even in remission-it is sore and seems to get hemmies/tears easily. Also even in remission I can't really hold my poop too long anymore. It's not urgent like when I'm flaring but I definitely cannot hold it like I used to before I got UC.
