Remicade swollen/red face???

Im now on my 3rd infusion of remicade (last Thursday) anyway, ive noticed that my face feels swollen even though people say it isnt (especially under my eyes) and is red on my cheeks. I told them about this and they took some blood and said they were going to test for lupus and such, but has anyone ever had this? to me its more annoying than anything.....

Remicade is like chemo. They give you Benadryl at the infusion session, so you don't swell, itch, etc...They take your blood pressure every hour because they're administering a substance that may have an adverse reaction. Remicade affected my liver (Hepatitis) and skin (rashes and open sores). My ex-doctor wanted me to stay on it for one full year! After 4 infusions and much suffering I quit Remicade. I'm trying acidophilus now and looking for other natural remedies. The mesalamine and steroids were bad for me too. Speak with your doctor. If you're not comfortable, get a second opinion. You're allowed to say NO to any treatment. I hope you find something that works.

I have never had anything like that personally and am very thankful for that.  My only swelling involved predinsone.  I would be very careful, or make sure that you can live with those type of reactions.  It's good to hear that they are testing you blood to find something though.

I have a swollen face, but it is from prednisone. Since I am still on it (I am tapering now), I can't say whether or not I have had an issue because of the Remicade. But I was on Humira for almost 2 years, which is very similar, and I never had a problem like that with it. Like fargman said, my swelling has always been from pred.

The nurse at my GI's office, where I get my infusions, told me some people do react to Remicade, but because it works so well for them, they continue to do the infusions and just chose to get the benedryl every time. That said, I think it is good your doc is doing bloodwork-keep us posted on it!

called the doc today. blood work came back good. no antibodies or anything bad. I am still on pred, but never had a puffy or red face and i was on a high dose 80 mg for a while. I have been on 20mg for 2 weeks now and i guess this is when i started to notice the red and puffy cheeks. today i lowerd to 15 mg and felt awful, face felt hot, had the chills, stomach ache, i called my doc she said its prolly the pred and to call her 2mrw with an update on how i feel. Im so happy to go to some of the best docs in NYC for my issue.

     Not this time, but in the past, I have had red and swollen cheeks, especially in the mornings.  This was due to prednisone.  While on Remicade (a short while), I never experienced red or swollen face.

Weird thing is though, i have never had this until weaning off of the pred..... does that sound right?granted everyone's body acts diff, but it would be nice to know at least one person has had this

i totally forgot to mention that i use proctofoam 2 times daily ........ think that could do this?
