I have missed my period and I am currently having a flare up. Recently (3 weeks ago) come off the prednisone - could this have something to do with it?
Not pregnant.

I don't think being on prednisone would cause you to skip a period but being ill with UC certainly could.

I had the same thing happen to me with my first flare, which I'm still going through. I missed my period and then literally like a week later I started seeing blood in my stool and soon after that started noticing other symptoms. I also was not pregnant and my periods were very regular up until this point. I finally got my period this month and my symptoms seem to be gradually getting better. Not sure if missing my period has anything to do with UC, but it was just another sign to me that my body was way out of whack.

I think it could be the pred. I haven't had my period since February because of it. I think it's part of why I have been such an emotional wreck on pred. it messing with my normal hormone production, etc.

I have always had normal periods even while having a flare up and being on pred. I do agree that it could be caused by many things, are you on the pill? You should probably talk to your GYN.

It could be because you are sick. I quit breastfeeding in December and still have not had a period. I think it's because I am just sick and malnourished

Both Prednisone and Uc could be the culprits. I have missed periods both times..when I was flaring and on steroids and while flaring and not on them. Sometimes I would just get this black mucky stuff around my period time and that was it till next month. Even if you had a recent drop in weight taht could do it.

I agree with Krissy-it could be either. For me, even when I had to be hospitalized and get blood transfusions, I never skipped a period, but as soon as I am on pred, my cycles stop. They come back when I get about
midway through my taper, but they are messed up. My GI said they didn't think pred would do that, but menstrual irregularities are a known side effect of steroids-yours may have shown up differently than mine. And some women do miss periods just from being sick.
Have you tried going on the pill? That could regulate things. If you don't want to do that (I don't), have you tried acupuncture? That is what I am doing-and she has helped me a lot with those kinds of issues in the past.

I missed my period for 3 months at the worst of my flare. Wasn't on any meds, wasn't pregnant. It came back when I started going into remission and hasn't missed since.

I haven't had my period in a few months, since before I was started on steroids. It's not uncommon to miss periods when your body is going through severe stress, like a flare. It's something you should raise at your next medical appointment though, I think.

either can screw up your cycle. I had horrible problems, i would have a period for a month straight, then not have one for 4 months. Even when i wasnt flaring or on pred. Then after i had surgery, the stress from everything had me even more out of whack and i ended up for almost a year and half having a period pretty much constantly! i finally got an IUD to straighten it out.
