As a person with active UC, am I allowed to donate blood? I am not presently anemic.

I would say yes but you should contact the Red Cross for clarification. If you ever get placed on immune suppressing medications then that answer may change.

I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed...I had to be checked out last time I tried to donate. I ended up not being able to for other reasons (tiny veins).

I had been told I couldn't donate, but I just looked and didn't couldn't find anything about UC or IBD on the Red Cross website.

You can't if you're anemic or your protein is too low or something, but they don't ask if you have UC

The last time the blood center called me about a blood drive, I asked if I could because of my UC and the meds I'm on. They said yes to UC (so long as I'm not flaring and/or anemic), asked which meds (just mesalamine) and they said ok.
