Info Needed ASAP Please

I can never keep brand names and active ingredients straight, but whichever contains acetominophen will be less irritating.

Aleve is an NSAID.

i take advil all the time and have no problems at all with it irritating my UC...your not suppose to, but i know some people have no problems at all

Have you ever tried Aleve?

I am icing the knee every few hours for about 20 mins along with elevation etc...the knee got much worse following a cortisone injection (these things can really be an issue so please be careful) I was told to take the NSAIDs for the new injection related inflammation. I have taken ibuprofen from time to time without much of an issue but was told to try Aleve for my knee by the ortho doc who knows I have UC...I only have to take it for three days but was curious if there was any diffrence in IBDers using either of the aforementioned NSAIDS.

Sorry, I guess I don't have any advice as I have been told not to take either. Is there not some alternative? A natural treatment, ice, heat. Maybe if you gave more info it would be helpful. Of course there are steroids and injections but I guess that is not an option.

I feel for you. I have had problems with one of my knees for over a year now. I too had a cortisone injection last year. It did not help; neither did physical therapy... Long story. I guess let us know how it goes with whatever you choose to take. I use to take Advil all the time prior to my UC diagnosis and when I was still a smoker. Love those green liquid gells. I have never had a doctor prescribe either since I was diagnosed with UC. Sorry I am not more of a help.

I have two bone on bone knees - no cartledge at all.  Been waiting to get UC under control and then dental work.  I will have at least one knee replaced before winter.  For inflammation my doctor said 400mg. Motrin but only 3 a day and if my stomach started to "act up" to stop.

I was on vacation and took two a day for a couple days with no problem and it definitely helped the swelling.

I prefer aleve over advil. Are you flaring? If you aren't and you only need to take it for three days I'd just go with the Aleve. I guess even if you are flaring you don't have much of a choice. Neither of them bother me, whether flaring or not.

I can take Aleve but only for one day or it makes me bleed. I have the same result with Naproxyn. Only one dose of Advil makes me bleed. Just be careful and watch your symptoms. If you notice any bleeding or you start having issues discontinue the Aleve promptly.

Btw, I use Celebrex for my joint pains and I have no issue with this anti-inflammatory.

Yes, I use Aleve BBC, and did so after a car accident where my knee was injured and then again after surgery for my knee. I didn't use any other pain meds but that, and it worked very well; no problem with my UC.

Oh- thanks, Luv - you triggered my brain; my chiropracter has recommended Traumagesic for various ills and aches. (I was helping hubby with a renovation some years back and an 8 foot long 4x4 landed on my head - got a concussion and a broken nose!) I was very hesitant to take it at first, given UC and my track record with NSAIDs, but - it's really effective and has never hurt my UC. It's available online, if you google it (it's manufactured by Tyler.) It's herbal and has some of our favorite anti-inflammatory herbs in it...
