Broke down and started Prednison

Just wanted to rant.  I had to break down and start the dreaded Prednisone today.  I just couldn't take another day of the pressure, cramping and pain.  It got worse yesterday when I started bleeding heavily vaginally and I am 14 weeks pregnant.  I have something called SCH.    I figure my quality of life will improve a little bit to get me through the rest of the pregnancy.  Now just have to deal with the high blood pressure and bloating and the oh so lovely moon face.  Oh well I have been through it all before.  It will go away sooner or later.

Ah, heck, Boxermom; I'm sorry you had to start of the Pred again. I'm hoping it will give you the relief you need. Take care...and always feel free to rant away!

I just needed a quality of life again. It is hard with the pregnancy. I am hoping it will be a quick taper just to get some relief. Just those dreaded side effects.

     So sorry to hear this boxermom.  What dose are you on?  Are you taking blood pressure meds?  My heart doctor has me take a water pill when on prednisone along with the blood pressure med.  That is the ONLY way my blood pressure went down to within normal limits.  The doctors in the hospital, back in 08, had me on three different blood pressure meds and my pressure was still 210/110!!  Go figure.

     I hope and pray things will improve for you!  Are you still on Humira?

I took Hydrochlorothiazide last time.  The prednisone and the combo of birth control pills is what really did me in.  Now that I am not on the pill I am hoping the pressure stays down.  I will keep my eye on it and it I have to will just get off the prednisone.  I took 40mg today and ate the best foods all day with no problems.  It was so nice.

Try not to feel bad! It's obviously not ideal-but hey-what is?

Glad to hear you are expecting! Hubby and I are trying for our own. :) How have your appointments been?

lild- It has been going ok so far. It wasn't exactly a planned pregnancy since I am going to be 40 when the baby is due and it is our first but we are happy about it. I am taking all my meds Asacol, Humira, Canasa and now the prednisone. I was flaring pretty bad for almost two years when I became pregnant which scares me more. Doctor says don't worry so I will listen to him and take things as they come. I am hoping once the prednisone kicks in I will be able to leave the house and feel pretty good.

I had an SCH as well..mine was small and just caused a bit of spotting. When they close up they stop bleeding...usually not much to worry about unless its a huge one. Sorry you had to start prednisone again..its bitter sweet..

KrissyUC- I really had a lot of blood. Still a little now. On the ultrasound it was just a mass of red. Didn't look too good. The baby was ok so that is all that matters. I never heard of such a thing. I couldn't even tell I was pregnant until this happened. Made it a little more real.

At least with the prednisone I will get my life back for a while. I was just looking at my skinny face in the mirror thinking it won't be that way for long.

SCH are very very common and usually go away quickly after the bleeding..if they dont they may rx bedrest but usually that is all they can do until it shrinks. The babes are usually fine and unaffected by this going on.
I sometimes want pred just to be able to eat anything I want...I miss chicken wings so bad :(

I keep thinking I might be able to hit up my favorite Mexican place for chicken fajitas by next week. Some salsa and chips. It has been so long.

I was so afraid of prednisone, but at a certain point in time you just need to feel ok again! Especially being pregnant. Good luck, I hope it's all help and less/no side effects....

just read this, realized pred is your next step- don't sweat how you may look, who cares! And yes, think of all the things you will soon be eating, fattening up that baby! Prednisone is a tough pill to take, no pun intended- you reach a point though where it looks like heaven, side effects be darned. When it works, it's SO good & SO fast. How many times have you taken it prior to this? I found with each course the therapeutic effects diminished- hope this won't be the case with you! Do you have a taper plan yet, will you stay at 40mgs for a week or so?

Eva Lou- I have become steroid dependent been on and off it so long. I am going to be on 40mg for two weeks then taper down by 5mg each week. I will maintain the 20mg for the rest of the pregnancy we think. If the blood pressure gets too bad I may just come off. I already have osteoporosis and hate to take it. Maybe this round of Prednisone will kick me into remission along with the Humira. I just can't get over that hump. Hoping this will do it. At least now I know I can take all my beach trips this summer. Was going to have to pass on them because the place we stay is on the bay side. Bathroom just too far away.

The good thing about pred is what it does for me. The bad thing about pred is what it does to me.
