     Due to my condition deteriorating a few days ago, I increased the prednisone to 40 mgm.  The bleeding has stopped but I have severe urgency, pressure in rectum and very soft stool.  The pressure is constant.  Now with the Holiday weekend, I am in a tizzy. 

     I am afraid to try Metamucil because of the inflammation in my rectum.  The last thing I need is to not be able to get any stool to pass through.  Any suggestions?  This will be my third day at 40 mgm.

I am really sorry that you feel that way. You are on a lot more meds than I am and also you must be feeling the side efects of the prednisone. My only sugestion and I might be wrong is to give a rest to your bowels. What I mean by that is to have a liqiod diet for a couple of days. That may help, especially since you do not have bleeding wich is a really good thing.

You poor thing. At least you have surgery to look forward to and you will be healthy after that! I can't believe how terrible things have gotten. I am not doing so well either, it's really becoming a problem sad

I don't take metamucil. I am not sure what you can do to feel better. I usually don't eat during the day so I don't have any problems. Not fun...

I'm so sorry you are having so much trouble!!!! I wish there were some words of wisdom I could offer you but I don't have any and that makes me feel even worse! ARGH! I just pray that you can hang in there until your surgery, I don't know what else to say, except if it get's bad enough, get yourself to the ER... ((((((((((((((Christine)))))))))))))))

I've been drinking only Ensure for a week and a half and it has really helped with the intense pain and urgency. I'm trying to drink 6 a day. I have urgency 15 mins after I drink one but it is much more tolerable than with any food. I have gone from 30 plus bathroom trips daily down to about half that. With way less pain.

     Thanks everyone.  Heidi, I was thinking of buying some Ensure.  I took it once before but don't remember if it helped.  Some people said it made things worse for them but it does give you the nutrients needed.  The bleeding returned today mad .  I ate two chicken strips last night with vegetables that were cooked to mush and some sherbet for dessert.  This morning I had half a scrambled egg and one slice of wheat toast (which probably made matters much worse.  I also had half a glass of 100% cranberry juice.  Going to send hubby out for that Ensure.

Honestly Christine, I don't think the food is helping or hurting the situation. It is just our immune systems. I Hope you get tihs under control before your surgery but at least you know the suffering will be gone soon. I've been in bad shape lately too, had o bump up my pred dose. I hope it helps. I am stopping my 5ASAs, my doctor said they aren't doing anyhting for me anymore. I agree with her.
