Anyone on low-fiber diet? Noticing some patterns/problems

Basically all I have been eating is rice, chicken or salmon, rice milk/rice puff cereal, and sunbutter.

For 3 or 4 days, I go to the bathroom maybe 2-3 times a day, small stool volume.

And then on the 4rth or 5th day, all hell breaks loose. Starting after waking up, the bowl is halfway filled with very large volume, solid but soft. Much involuntary straining. 10 minutes later, its filled again. 10 minutes after that, the remainder comes out, and then for the next hour I still feel the urge to go (because what just happened made everything super-sensitive) even if nothing comes out or only liquid or tiny particles.

And this happens with no change in the daily diet, so the only conclusion I have is that with the lack of fiber, somehow the contents are being stored, and then when the volume is large enough, released.

Anyone have experience with this?

I decided to start eating 10 grams of Psyllium husks a day and see what happens.

Well, you're obviously flaring, which rectal meds should help. If you're not on any, please consider.

Fibre supplements..start low and increase. I take mine with meals, not between.

Hi, I have been on a low fiber (more accurately, low roughage diet for the past six months. I can't handle any fruits or veggies except potatoes and bananas. A couple of day ago, I tried about 1/2 up of broccoli soup. It tasted great, but then rushed through my system and made me have D for two days. This can't be healthy to eat the diet I do. I do take vitamins, but I don't think they stay in long enough to be properly absorbed. Nothing else is. However, as to fiber, I have started dissolving powdered fiber ( lots of brands - I buy what is on sale - most recently Benefiber - in my morning coffee. I think it helps. I heard about it in here. Someone said it gives the poop something to stick to. Not sure it helps, but I think so. Saralee

Soft snake like is good I thought, well at least better than hard lumpy stool, them do the damage.

Yes, I have done that exactly.  Large volume and it takes several times to get it all out but it's not D, never D.  And I never had any other symptoms, blood, mucus, etc.  I think it was the end of my flare.  It would be every 3 days, then 4 then stretch out to once a week.  Then one magical day that was it and remission.  But I did use my meds without fail.  And I did take fiber as well.  Hang in there, maybe this will work itself out and it will be the end of your flare too.

And I didn't mean for my above post to lead anyone to believe that was my only UC symptom ever, but all the other symptoms went away and that large volume deal was my only symptom at that time.  That's why I believe it was me coming out of a flare and it's just the end of a flare for me.

You are still flaring. More things heal the less it happens. At least for me. Happens every single time, so I expect it. I found doing the extra fiber helps, but I still get that pattern. You can't make UC make sense. You just do what works at that time.
