I tried following a diet for a few months, cutting out dairy, skins of everything, stringy veg like spinach which remains in the gut, peas, beans, corn, most veg except for starchy ones like potato and pumkin. fruit juice, alcohol, caffeine (I was allowed one cup a day.) It didn't help at all. I'm in remission now and eat anything. For me, the medication is the thing that worked. I had a very caring dietician and she agreed, it was the meds that got me right. My GI also believes that in many cases diet is ineffective. But it is an individual thing. My dietician says they wouldn't study ulcerative colitis if diet didn't help some people.
