I just feel like taking a knife and cutting out my colitis

I certainly emphatize.  I wonder how my life would have been different if I didn't have this condition and it's other physical manifestations for 10 years.  We are the strong!  It's a wonder I'm still here to be honest.  IT's been a difficult road.

Have you tried modifiying your diet.  I was bedridden all but 4-5 weeks ago.  Now I okay.  I'm still getting over some skin problems but the colitis end is good.  I am in remission right now! 

When everyone else was out to the beach sipping there Pina Colada's, eating, then having a great time. I was camping out next to the bathroom.

I use a roll of Kirkland toilet paper a day. I bleed everyday. Constant pain.

It's sad. I dunno who to see or what to do anymore.

I'd rather do it myself than pay for the doctor's new corvette

     Ever consider surgery?

wallc, have you talked to your doctor about trying another course of the Flagyl and Cipro, maybe a long-term course if possible.....? Have you done any of your own research to see if that's even done.....? If I were you that would be my next step and I would do it ASAP!

wallc777 what does your doctor say about the antibiotic improving things? Is he going to try you on a longer run? Do more tests?

Don't blame the Doctors, unless they are a bad one and ignore your requests. Blame the Hospitals. they set the rates. I am at the point for surgery too. I am a prisoner in my own house. can't work, and its depressing I agree. Everyone I know is out enjoying themselves and living life while I go 20 times a day with pain. so I can say I am in the same darn boat.

If Cipro and Flagyl helped, then you might be flaring due to an overabundance of bad bacteria in your colon. Diet is not going to be of much help if you don't have any digestive issues. Fecal transplantation just might be the solution in getting good bacteria back into your colon. If not, then find a good surgeon.

I still remember, on the 2nd day on Flagyl and Cipro, all my symptoms disappeared! like a light switch.

I have told all of my doctors and GI's, and they all brush it off. They just shrug there shoulders and say I dunno.

And they keep prescribing me prednisone and sulfasalazine! :-(

Wow. After reading this post and all of the replies, I'm so thankful that the Specific Carbohydrate Diet worked for me 100%. Been med free and symptom free ever since. I had severe Ulcerative Colitis all throughout the length of my colon.

My UC was caused by years of anti-biotic use which caused a complete imbalance of bad bacteria, yeast, and fungus in my intestines which then caused the ulcerations. My immune system was not attacking itself as my gastroenterologist wanted me to believe, the darn candida yeasts, fungus, etc were attacking my intestines. Once I understood that, I could then bring my gut back into balance by killing off the bad stuff in there and replenishing all the good guys with lots of probiotics, etc.

The Specific Carbohydrate Diet works by starving off the yeast, fungus, bad stuff, etc. A good anti-candida diet will do the same thing. I also took additional supplements like Intestinew which is therapeutic doses of the amino acid L-Glutamine which heals the lining of the intestines. A month of drinking that morning and night and all ulcerations were gone. Candidastat was the best anti-yeast herbal supplement that I found and still occasionally take that for maintainence. Olive Leaf Extract is also a great anti-yeast supplement. Of course Fish Oil is a natural anti-inflammatory, and liquid probiotics were the quickest and most effective way of replacing the good bacteria in my intestines.

In addition to diet and supplements, there is a third component that is necessary in order to heal yourself naturally from a condition like UC, and that's the belief that you can do it. After I did weeks and weeks of reading and research and fully understood the natural workings of the human digestive system, I knew without a doubt, that healing was possible and that my body felt much better with the diet and supplements, and without the drugs my doctor prescribed.

First and foremost i commend everyone here to stay valiant and strong!! your not alone! i recommend a mixture of both homeopathic remedies and anti-biotics. Probiotic's;definitely helps but trust things will get worse before it gets better. I am against surgery because i have successfully stayed in remission for two years. i got two comfortable and my UC came back with a vengeance. I recommend a lot of trial and error, research and communicate with others as much as you can. suicidal thoughts entered my mind on a daily but i say to myself. killing myself and not helping others currently suffering would be weak. I'd rather suffer get on track and spread the regimen like wild fire to those looking for answers!! STAY STRONG!!!
