does anyone else get this with flares? lately i can not get through even a small meal without horrible cramps..i have to stop and breath and see whether its just gonna be gas or if i have to actually go have a bm before finishing my meal..its so annoying and very very uncomfortable!! its almost like period cramps and nausea all at once...

Krissy, I do get this pretty much more often then not but more so and more painfully when Im flaring nastily. I almost always am ranging from mild discomfort after a meal to extreme pain. It is annoying.

It's not unusual. The act of eating activates the whole digestive system, causing the bowels to contract and spasm. Under normal circumstances, this doesn't hurt, but when the bowels are inflamed and/or ulcerated, you're going to feel it. This is also why many people - especially IBDers in a flare - have to have a bowel movement shortly after a meal.

OK this is definitely happening to me then..I wonder if I am ulcerated or just inflammed..would it bleed if there were no ulcers?

The bleeding happens when the lining inflammation gets to such that it becomes more fragile or friable...bleeding on its own or from bms or diarrhea....but where exactly you're bleeding is something yet to be determined.
I don't get gut cramping when I eat, but eating can definitely set off extreme peristalsis leading to a bm if there's anything (even mucus) in the rectum. The bm itself will give me extreme rectal cramping/spasming and pain....squealing white-knuckling pain.
Is there a specific meal/food that seems to have your digestive tract moving more than usual...excluding the fact that you're flaring.
I still think you should consider an antispasmodic...you could take it a half hour before you eat to see if that helps.
Regarding ulcers....there are the superficial ones that are teeny all throughout the inflamed area...depending on how inflamed it is....and then there are more individual ones that are deeper into the submucosa that can have pus and more extreme mucus around them, meaning more severe inflammation...
I know I'm bugging you about
this....but I've been reading on pseudopolyps and it states that they cannot directly be excluded upon visual inspection and should be biopsied.

I can not put my finger on what foods are causing issues..I mentioned before I really dont know how to tell..If I eat cheese and then I go right after that doesnt mean cheese did thats just regular persitatlis acccordin to many here..so how do i know what causes discomfort..how many hours after eating would i feel the pain?
I am pretty confident that those polyps are nothing just as the GI that noticed that said..If I were just bleeding that would be another story but I am bleeding, with pain and D..all signs of a flare..not a polyp acting up in my opinion.
I have not been reading up on them besides one time where I read that are from having a lot of inflammation. Anyone with UC can have them apparently ..my girlfriend who also has UC has them too.

Well, to me, milk would cause the most peristalsis as well as fibrous foods.
If you have more peristalsis cramping with your morning meal....change it up.
If you have more peristalsis when you have your afternoon yogurt with VSL...maybe take it at night.
But, truly....if you have anything going through your colon and that area's inflamed....it'll rush it through asap.
Hence the suggestion for the antispasmodic...I take Bentylol (dicyclomine).
You can't change the inflammation with food and if you're flaring, the peristalsis will be more. Some foods can encourage more peristalsis.
The more peristalsis or spasmning, sometimes the more the nausea.

Please help me to understand....
so just drinking milk would cause you to have a lot of perstalisis? but how so if the milk is not even digeststed yet? I really do not understand all this and hence why I Cant avoid certain foods.
I have the least in the morning..mostly with lunch or dinner..and sometimes not even while im eatting or aftar..could just be random.

Maybe you could try a digestive enzyme when you eat? Some foods require more breakdown...maybe some foods just cause the digestive tract to churn more.
This is a good article and explanation....

During the worst of it, I would get pretty nasty abdominal pain with eating - which is how I ended up on liquids-only for a couple of weeks - but as the flare got under control this problem went away. It took awhile. By the way, I'd also have to run to the bathroom mid-meal. Run. This happened more often with breakfast than anything else. (Breakfast was, and is, almost always an omelet and yogurt. What was trouble for me a few weeks ago doesn't bother me at all now - so, it seemed to come down to reducing the inflammation.)

Morning is total body wake-up. When I was flaring, just
opening my eyes and getting moving had me running to the bathroom.

That's why I think an antispasmodic could help...
