multi- vitamin specific to UC

I have seen a post or two here about a multi - vitamin that is designed for people with UC--

I cannot remember the name and I am hoping someone here will know--

Forvia -- in the U.S. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

where can you get this? I am in Canada so I am wondering if we have it here?

edit: i just looked it up, thanks for th einfo.  It looks like it can be ordered online.

Also, do you take the chewables or the pills?

Forvia can only be purchased online. I take the non-chewable.

It claims its designed for IBD patients but when I compare the Forvia insert to my CVS Daily Multipil for men, following are the differences,

Less than CVS by amount
Vit A - 1000 IU
Niacin - 6mg
Biotin - 15mcg

More than CVS by amount
Vit C - 10mg
Vit E - 30IU
Vit K - 20mcg
Vit B1 - 3.8mg
Vit B2 - 3.7mg
Vit B6 - 2mg
Vit B12 - 482mg
Folic Acid - 200mcg

I didn't account for minerals and the issue could be Calcium salt that they use. CVS uses Calcium carbonate and Forvia uses Calcium pentothenate and dicalcium phosphate. I don't know how much bioavailbility of elemental calcium varies between all these different calcium salts.
I don't know of the formulation either.

What I don't know is, the number of tablets in 30 days supply, are they 30 or 60?

I just think it is a marketing gimmick. All I can see that is good for IBD is an extraordinary amount of B12. Otherwise it seems to me rather mediocre. I prefer to take a more comprehensive multiple and take more B12 separately if I need it.

If you don't take Fovia, what would you suggest as a good mulitvitamin. Some thing as common as a Centrum?

Any vitamin with a USP stamp on it should be fine. Centrum gets high marks.

I really like Nature's Secret Women's 73 Nutrient soft-gel Multi. It has a nice range of vitamins, minerals, & herbs, but no mega doses. It is a liquid capsule which is very mild on my stomach. It's the only multi I can take without upset.

I took Forvia for a year and it sent my B12 count through the roof. I wasn't toxic, but I wasn't allowed to take any multi-vitamins for a few months afterward. Now, almost a year later, my B12 is in normal range but still at the high end. I just take Flintstones now.

Equate the Walmart brand has duplicates of Centrum and Centrum silver.Very inexpensive. The specialty multis and premium multis are very expensive relative to these and I think a marketing gimmick. You are better off with the equate multi or centrum then taking additional single vitamin capsules if you want more of certain vitamins. Lots more bang for the buck.

same thing happened to me with forvia, that happened to bookworm21. It sent my B12 count through the roof. Dr called me into the office after bloodwork to see why this was happening. Told me to quit taking it. Now i just take centrum

I take a regular multi-vitamin that I buy at the drug store. I basically compare dosages and price. I prefer dosages close to 100%. I stay away from vitamins that provide something more than 300%, or I'll take them much less frequent if I can't find one that is close to 100%. I know some vitamins are supposed to go straight through the body and out in the urine if the dosage is too high, but not all of them do like they are supposed to.

To those who claim their B12 count through roof upon use of Forvia,
What is the name of blood test where they check your Vit.B12 levels? I always do my CBC and liver function tests but after taking Vit. B12, 1mg a day, for almost 3 years now, nothing such has showed up in my blood. Forvia contains 500mg of Vit. B12. I am curious (and worried), hence I would like to talk to my GI about it.

deltaforce, just ask to have your B12 levels checked. I don't know if there is a specific name for the test.

I think the Forvia is what caused my B-12 levels to even out. I was doing very poorly on a regular vitamin, just feeling ran down and off kilter. But then I started Forvia and it made a huge difference in how I felt. I now have more energy and I feel like myself. I have had my B-12 levels checked repeatedly over the years and it was always at the proper range where before it was usually a little on the low side.
