Well formed skinny stools. Anything to worry about
? Maybe just something I ate?

For me, if they're skinny there is inflammation and it's time for me to be careful.

That was the first thing I started to notice when things started going downhill.

I only ever had skinny stools when I would get anything formed. I think that means there is inflammation and the passage is narrower for them to go through.

up the enemas to nightly....just because. See if that improves. The Canasa daily isn't enough.
Skinny stools wouldn't be from what you ate.
Could be from extreme stress and IBS.....inflammation of the rectum.....hemmies....obstruction.....
I lean towards slight inflammation, especially because of your recent symptoms.
It isn't going to hurt to increase the enemas...even if you did them nightly for a week and see if they improve.
Are you taking added fibre?

Will up the fiber. And nightly on the enemas!!
Hope it's only temporary.
Appointment with my GI (steroids forever) doc on Wednesday. Just a check up.
Thanks

Ellen....it should only be temporary if you deal with it. You should stay on the nightly enemas until all is normal....then only taper to every second night until after you're off the pred.
The fibre will help prevent any other possibilities such as hemmies from pushing hard stools, as well as fissures.
You're reacting much faster....see how double edged experience is? sucks, but we have to learn from it.

For me, those are a very bad sign. I know I say that about
everything. I am finally not having skinny stools! I've been having really firm, formed ones. Dare I say "Normal"? too bad it never lasts.

Try not to be so neg NSSG (like I used to be). "Too bad it never lasts?" You're being really rough on yourself.
I just had quite a normal bm after two skinnies.
Will still up the enemas.
Thank goodness for a normal one. You're right, Q. Experience is really helpful. But skinny stools are new, or noticing them is new. Always a new symptom and I've been at this for 11 months!!!

So you're saying I should be on every other night til I get off the pred. I'm dropping one milligram a month. now at 6 - 0 - 6 - 0 I'm not sure how much the pred is affecting me except that I have to get off of it.. I did have clean flex sig.
That taper is a combo of my GI and PCP recommendation. Remember I allegedly have no adrenal function, emphasis on the alleged.

Before Humira, I had bloody diarrhea. Since being on Humira, I have formed skinny stools. I thought that it is because the Humira is working. Do you still think I am inflammed and still in a minor flare? Thanks for any advice.

sounds like skinny stools are a step up. I'd be hopeful, but what do I know? That's why I posted
Sounds like the Humira is working.

It probably depends on the skinnies. The bad ones that I was having were not dense, they were kind of loose but formed. I would think if they were firm and skinny, maybe they wouldn't be as bad a symptom.

My poo gets smaller and skinner when I start going into a flare.

Ellen....I suggest going back to nightly until all is good and normal poos. Then if all continues for anotherl week, go to every second night and stay there until you're off the pred.
Yes, I know you're tapering one mg a month....
you could nix the morning canasa possibly...

Ellen,
Thank you for asking this. I have been having the same issue on and off for a week or so. I assumed the skinny size means that there is inflamation happening. However at this point I don't have any other symptoms, so I am just going to wait and see what happens.

I used to be wait and see, but now I'm a little more pro-active thanks to Q. You might want to listen to her and get on a rectal enema regime and see if it shapes up your poos. It calms me down a little because I feel like I'm doing something

I think my stool is skinny because I have a skin flap down there shaping my poo!
It doesn't hurt and seems to have no nerves at all, my GI says best to just leave it alone. I've had it for more than 10 years.
I'm happy to have formed poo in any shape.

My poo is back in good form! I have a skin flap too btw. I don't think it affects the shape though.

That's great news Ellen!! Looks like it was just a minor blip.
How are you doing otherwise? I am still feeling okay but worried for the future when I drop my dose again.
