Levaquin for colitis?

My Dad has had colitis since 1995 when he developed it after he quit smoking. He's been mostly in remission except for 3 big flares. In one of his worst flares 3 years ago, he had to have dental surgery and they gave him levaquin. After taking it, he suddenly went into remission. Has there been any info on levaquin helping colitis?

Levaquin is an extremely effective and potent antibiotic. So as Heather said, he may have had an infection in his GI tract due to a flare and the levaquin cured the infection.
