beta:
Again I am no consultant or M.D. I am alos on Imuran, now for over a year and my colitis feels great, I don't even think about the bathroom. I go #2 once to twice a day and forget about it till the next morning, right on schedule. So I know where your coming from. I asked my doctor about lowering the dose, etc... I was initially on 200 mg and got permission to lower it to 150 mg. When I asked him about lowering it even more or eventually getting off it all together or maybe switching back to the ASA meds he said he heard of this. He has heard of patients going into remission and lowering their dosage dramatically. I did not notice any change going from 200 to 150 mg. When I pressed him for any negative side effects he was aware of any with over a thousand patients taking it. Imuran doesn't work for some, for those that it does it works very well.
In the end I would definitely pursue the decrease in dosage. But don't do anything on your own, go with a consultant and or GI doc that you trust.
