Yeah I've been working my butt off to get in. I'm trying to become a Gastroenterologist eventually! I think patients with UC would like that, having a doctor with the same problem!

Congratulations, tht is a huge accomplishment. If I were local I would love to see a GI with UC. :) Best of luck.

Congratulations! You will be a terrific, compassionate doctor because you will know exactly what your patients are dealing with. My daughter has always wanted to be a doctor, even before she had UC.......now, she thinks she may want to be a gastroenterologist, but she doesn't want to do rectal exams! lol

HAHA that's pretty funny lol. I've always wanted to go into the medical field, but I wasn't sure what I wanted to specialize in until I got this disease. Now I know for certain this is what i'm going to be doing! Bring on the years of studying and not having a life! wooo

Oh how awesome would that be??!! To have a doctor that can truly relate to his patients :) Congrats on the Premed - it will be long tough road but if this is what you truly want to do then it will be worth it!

Congrats! It's interesting, I know of several kids who've grown up with UC who have gone on to med school to become GIs. Actually, one of the highest regarded pediatric GIs in the US (Dr. Balasando (sp?) at CHOP has CD himself. Keep us posted, it's great to hear!

Congratulations! That's awesome. It IS possible.
My cousin is a surgeon now, and all through her schooling and residency she was battling UC. She recently found out she has CD instead, but she's still pressing on.

Congratulations! My dentist fell ill with what turned out to be Crohn's while still in a demanding university dental school, but he didn't let it stop him. He graduated on time. He learned how to manage the CD and later, to pace himself in his private practice. Best wishes for you to fulfill your career plans, too. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

Congrats! Make sure you take care of yourself...you can't help others if you can't help yourself first.
