MOM OF UC NOW 8 YEAR OLD SON MIGHT HAVE CHRON'S

My eight year old son has been throwing up since Feb. of this year. He has no bathroom issues really, they tried putting him on prevacid and prilosec, and that didn't work. His dr. suggest we go to a GI and they did allergy testing, and he had a scope last week(down his throat), he found a ulcer in his small intestant, he said I think he has Hpylori(a bacterial infection), if the biopsies come back accute, then he goes on antiboiotics and it will clear up, if they come back chronic we have to scope him(colonscopy) because then it could be chron's or IBD, he said this concerned him because I have UC. Well guess what they came back chronic, I'm so worried. He does have holding it issues but he has solid poop, I always thought oh he is eight and in a hurry when in the bathroom that he isn't finished and goes back in the bathroom alittle while later. He gets sores in his mouth and he throws up(not tons)all day long. I don't want him to have this, it sucks and you suffer, fatigue, joint pain, not to mention the bathroom issue. He has a colonoscopy scheduled but they said he also has chronic inflammation in his stomach, plus the ulcer. She said it could just be starting. Sorry just worried and need to vent. I keep praying he don't have this darn IBD, I don't want him to have to deal with this for his whole life and at such a young age. I was just diagnosed almost two years ago at 29 and I have issues my god how does this diesese affect a child i can only imagine.

Thanks, that is what my mom said. I'm on the docs all the time and if I don't want something or don't think something is right i let them know. I just know how we suffer and I worry about him suffering, he is so young. At least I'm older and can handle it. I can't imagine dealing with this at a young age. What about school, and field trips, baseball, etc, etc. I can go on and on. He kind of goes in his pants now(sometimes not all the time) but I figured it was because he was playing and waited to long. I also don't want him on the meds exspecially at his age. Im just praying it is Hpylori instead. Someone needs to find a cure for this darn IBD.

I am really sorry and will be praying for the best outcome for your family. I can imagine how you feel, my dad has UC and I was diagnosed with Crohn's at 19. I could tell when I was sick that it was much harder on my dad than my mom. The first time I was in the hospital my mom and I came back from a walk and walked in on my dad yelling at the doctor, pretty much you have to make her better she can't live like this.

On the bright side, it is easy to talk to my dad about it and he knew exactly how I felt. He would tell me his tips that helped him and how he would deal with things in different situations. We went to the same doctor and it helped because my dad and I reacted the same to a lot of medicines, sometimes my dad already being down a path helped me figure things out quicker. Probably not the same for all relatives but our genetics seemed to make our cases pretty similar. One doctor even said once it was surprising my dads diagnosis was UC and mine Crohn's because our cases were so similar!

I'm sorry! I really hope he does not have IBD. This is a big fear of mine for my son, as well. At least we know what to look for and can hopefully get treatment started sooner if they do have it

As I read your post it brought tears to my eyes. I am so afraid of my little ones having the same issues as I have. I hope it is the h pylori and not chrons or uc. I feel for you ...please vent anytime as I would do the same.

So sorry to hear this momof3.....hoping it is pylori and not UC. My older daughter is having bowel issues now too, she just turned 38. She thinks it is diet related and certain foods just don't set right with her. I sure hope that is all it is. I wasn't diagnosed till I was 52. My grandmother must have had IBD but she was the only one of her siblings who did. My dad had diverticulitis. Guess I took after that side of the family.
My doctor said more and more people are being diagnosed with IBD. One of the xray technicians in the hospital told me she was diagnosed with Crohn's ten years ago and at the time she didn't know a soul who had it. Now she knows several people with IBD and more are being diagnosed every day. Wonder what is causing this increase?

This is a worry for any parent with IBD. I have Colitis. My 10 Y.O. son had bowel issues like urgency and alternating diarrhea/constipation. Sometimes he has pain in his lower back and is on and off the toilet for hours. Even when he was a baby he had diarrhea a lot more often than his older brother.

His pediatrician thinks he has IBS. I now give him half a capful of Miralax every day in a cup of apple juice and he has been fine. The Doc thought the pain was caused by the hard stool plugging up his system which led to the diarrhea.

When you are an IBD sufferer, the thought of your child having it is very horrifying indeed. I can totally understand why you feel the way you do.

I hope everything works out for the best for you and your son. One comforting fact for me is that only 4 or 5 kids in 100,000 get IDB before their teenage years, so the odds are in your favor.

Thanks everyone. I really would be suprised if it was Crohn's or an IBD thing. Anyone I know that has this doesn't have throwing up issues(they have D issues lol) he doesn't. I think it is Hphylori and they are being better safe than sorry. I had my kids before I got UC(got symptoms when 6 months pregnant with my third child). I still would have had them but I pray they don't get this. It is a horrible thing and way to live your life.

Thanks killcolitis- I wasn't sure about the throwing up. It is an ulcer in his small intestine. It is chronic and his stomach has chronic inflammation. I hope it is hphyloric not Crohn's. I will let everyone know. You just have to wait so long to get an appointment. I scheduled his scope down the throat in May and he just had it about a week and a half ago. So I'm thinking he won't have is other scope until August or end of August.

The 11 yr-old son of a friend got very sick with vomiting and it was eventually diagnosed as inflammation in the jujeunum-- middle part of the small intestine. It took him a while to recover, but he did not have IBD. Hopefully, your son will soon be diagnosed and be able to resume his usual activities. Try not to panic though we all understand why you're worried for his future. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)
