What's your first sign of a flare? Is it really bad gas?

Is it the case that the quicker you address a flare with extra meds the less severe it gets or have you had flares that were really bad despite addressing them right away with meds?

My first indicator varies. Sometimes it's increased gas and mucous other times it's an increase of D or I start to bleed. But for me, if I start additional meds at the beginning then it helps stop the flare from going full out.

For me, cramping, bad smelly gas, progressively loosening stool, increased # of BM's.

first sign for me is always mucous. Some flares respond quick with meds, some dont. Always different.

Usually goes in this order for me:

Gas, Pain, Mucus, Blood

Mine is gas, frequency, blood, pain.
I had virtually no pain for the first 20 years of UC - ! Now it's part of my flares.... and I'm amazed I didn't have it before.
