Colonoscopy results

Hi guys.
I had a colonoscopy two days ago and wondered if I could get your thoughts/suggestions please. I'd love to hear from anyone in a simillar situation/ involvement.

Gastro doctor (great guy - an IBD researcher) did the scope and said that I had fairly mild inflammation to about 25cm (which is the same involvement I had years ago with the last flare).
He didn't at all seem concerned. In fact he said that I didn't really need to go see him again if I didn't feel the need.

I'm currently doing a high dose 8 sulfasalazine a day with 4g mesalazine enemas at night (for when I notice blood etc).

Today I started feeling a little unwell (usual sore tummy) and tonight I passed a lot of wind and a little stool wiu mucous. I'm getting fed up as it seems like a step forward then one back.

My questions are (i was too drugged up to ask them);
1. What chance is tyere of the current flare go away ever?
2. Is it possible the mesalazine is making me worse ? (I'm almost too scared to try a few days without them - also I don't really dig the whole concept!)
3. Now we know the involvement for certain, is it worth trying any other meds? (foam or supps etc)
4. It feels as though this is quite a trying condition to remedy. Is that fairly common?

The fact that your UC is very mild means it's still happening, but obviously improved since last year.

I misunderstand why you want to stop your meds.

REgarding the Salofalk 4g....were you not on them continually then tapering to maintenance?

Yes, it's a trying condition. I'm now missing why you don't want to be on meds since they have helped.

Your flare will improve to the point of you having no symptoms, but you have to use the meds to work effectively.

Again, describe the Salofalk 4g and how you've been using it. During the bad times doesn't jibe with me.



Songlady...Where those who use Salofalk reside, Rowasa isn't available. I'm assuming the 4g that m-Dot used are the enemas.

to each his own....I personally wouldn't use steroid enemas if the 5ASA works well. I agree that foams are easier to retain, however...I used the cortifoam or proctofoam 21 years ago for 2 weeks.

There may be ASacol foam enemas available in Australia. Call your pharmacist and see what's available in mesalamine foam enemas.

They, unfortunately, will be a lower dosage, but maybe you'll be able to do two dosages in one injection or do them twice a day if you need.

Do what's best for your butt....don't compromise on that.

Have you not discussed it with your girlfriend?
