2 months flaring, 2 hospital stays, new diet, remicade, still no change?

about two months ago my flare started after about 2 yrs of being completly normal. I was going about 10 times a day, blood, fatigued, stomach pain ect. about a week later i was put in the hospital for 3 days and put on iv prednizone. After i was released i still had bloody diarrhea and was still going alot. On 40mg of prednizone, and starting to feel alittle bit better my doctor put me back on imurane and that same day i had intense pain in my stomach and went to the er and eventually they found i had acute pancreitis from the imurane. My lygase(sp?) levels in my pancreis where at 4600. 4 more days in the hospital and was released again. Now my symptoms where even worse, i couldnt sleep at night because i was getting up to go so much and there was still blood. about two weeks ago i recieved my first remicade treatment and although it did not seem to really help, i no longer have blood in my bm's. I am still going 15-20 times a day and getting up every hr at night to go. i am still on 20mg of pred also. my second treatment of remicade is later this afternoon, and im concerned that this treatment is not working for me although it did clear up the blood. I also started a new diet, based on david kleins book, and i am eating pretty much nothing but fruit and veggies for the last 3 days but that doesnt seem to being changing anything also. Any advice or observations would be appreciated. thank you

ps. im 18 yrs old, very active before flare, went from 173 lbs to 144lbs during flare...also on lialda

Sorry to hear about your flare.

I have never taken Remicade, but many posters have said that it takes several infusions before they saw beneficial effects.

Personally, I would avoid excessive amounts of fruits and veggies while flaring and stick to a low residue diet.

I had a flare where I needed high levels of pred for quite some time (a month at least) to get it under control. Dropping before you are in remission will not help anything. I guess the Doc is just waiting to see if the Remicade will do the trick. 20 mg of pred is usually enough to keep your symptoms at a reasonable level while they wait for the biologics or immunosuppressants to kick in.

Do you have left sided or pancolitis? If you have left sided, some rectal meds may help, although it sounds like you would have trouble retaining them.
