Miscarriage and Colitis

Hello,

I just had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. I was diagnosed with UC in November 2006, and have been on Imuran and Asacol HD for quite some time. I'm currently taking 150mg of Imuran/day.

I spoke with my GI about getting pregnant while taking these medicines, and he did not seem concerned. However, now that I've had a miscarriage, I'm worried that the medicine and/or UC may have contributed, and want to make sure I make any necessary changes before we try to get pregnant again.

Has anyone had any luck pregnant w/Imuran? Or luck controlling symptoms another way?

Just to make you feel better, my wife had a miscarriage last year. No diseases, no health issues at all. It was tough for us, but I think just a part of the deal with our fragile beautiful life.

On the bright side, we just had a baby last week. Wishing you the best luck in the future for the same outcome.

I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that so many women have miscarriages. I think that almost half of my friends have had one. Most of them also have went on to have healthy pregnancies. They are more common than we know, but for obvious reasons people don't usually talk about them. UC can icrease risk but only on a very very severe flare (that is what I was told). And I believe at 6 weeks anything is possible still, it is very early.
I don't think your meds played any role. I was onsalofalk my entire pregnancy, and although I wasn't the most comfortable my baby always looked great and was born a healthy 7lbs. 13oz. at 39 weeks!

He is 9 months old now and just AMAZING!

Good luck, of course discuss with your GI but if I get pregnant again I will stay on my meds again.
