This confused me further abt my condition....

This happened last year but has been on my mind since....

I was having a flare up and had traveled to India last year....there i met a very famous Ayurvedic doctor (i never believed alternate medicine would work as this is old medicine and i dnt think much research is being done on them) He gave me some medicine and told me i could start it along with my current medicines .. i was skeptical but still gave it a try ....the first set of medicine did not work and he changed in 2 weeks time to some green butter like substance and 3 different color tablets (red, white & black)... blood and mucus disappeared in 2 weeks and i was surprised. I asked him what is in the medicines but he was not willing to share much....all he told me was u have Infective Colitis!! i told him "NO" .. he said "trust me." But i find difficult to trust him because he did not tell me what medicine he was giving me & i would be worried taking something for long duration abt which i know nothing .... but at the same time he is a very famous doctor there (he is 3rd generation practicing Ayurveda in his family- his father now does it for charity for poor people)...it takes hours to meet him - there r no appointment & its first come first served and u have to wait in a queue for atleast an hour. He told me he would not send the medicines to US due to Custom clearance problems..... i took his medicine for a month or so i was there and it did make me feel better...when i stopped it my flare was back. I guess the medicines that worked on me were for some infection that is why he was ruling out ulcerative colitis and was telling me again and again its infective colitis.

I just wanted to know ... can this be infective colitis? How do we know it is infective colitis. I have been trying not to think abt it much but somehow what he told me keeps hitting my mind.

my GI did take biopsies when i had my sigmoidoscopy last year but she told me nothing about infective colitis..she came out and said u have U.Proctitis. That was more than an year back...i dnt know the condition of my colon right now.

The ayurvedic doctor's medicine which helped me was : yellow-green butter like stuff in glass bottle(clarified butter (ghee) mixed with some herb which gave it that color) & he gave me a red powder called "Nagkeshar" every morning & evening i had to mix this powder in ghee/butter and add little sugar and have it. I believe that red powder he gave me is from some flower which stops bleeding. Plus he gave me 3 round tablets with code names K,P & Ka. He didnt tell me what he added to that butter & neither did he tell me what those tablets were. But i think what made difference to my health was mainly that green butter stuff.

I guess they dnt want to let out their 3 generations old secret of being able to cure people ....lately i have heard they r getting into research as well. Most other ayurvedic doctors are not so secretive as he is..... but what matters is he is able to cure people- i met so many people in his clinic who told me they came to him when Allopathic medicine didn't work on them and they r now totally healed with no side effects( i was worried about starting Ayurvedic medicine so i tried to talk to as many people as i could for feedback). All his medicines are made in house...... even for cow's milk/butter used in medicine they have their own farm. ... despite all this i would still be worried abt taking his medicine for long duration.

Of course they test for infectious colitis....or at least they should.

That doesn't mean that something didn't trigger it initially...the residual disease would be a continual autoimmune disease called UC if that's what one is diagnosed with.

It also doesn't mean that while one has UC..one cannot get an infection or whatever else bug, etc....that would be a separate issue, two to deal with.

zamba..the fact that you're still flaring means you have UC....whatever the a. doc gave you obviously hasn't cured you.

You need to get stool samples done again from your GI...just to make sure you don't have something else going on.

Zippy....no drugs all one's life isn't good...but they do help on various levels...and the trick is to not take a full dose consistently.

Plus...if one doesn't want to take meds....herbs, concoctions, etc...are still drugs. One cannot deny.

I, for one, am ecstatic to be on the 5ASA meds, my UC has regressed with NO cancer/precancer...but my doc isn't one who requests high med dosage full bore.

I wouldn't take anything that I didn't know what it was...etc.

That is interesting, infection colitis, I wonder what kind of infection he meant, bacteria, virus, or yeast. Did he do any tests on you to come up with this? If not maybe because of how you reacted to his first treatment determined what type of colitis you had.

I don't think western medicine acknowledges "infect colitis", they accept UC as a auto-immune disease with no cure, just treat the symptoms. Unless it was because of food poisoning, so forth.

If his cures work for you I would go with it myself, taking 5ASA drugs all your life isn't exactly good for your body either and how good are they at keeping you out of a flare.

yes zippy.... but i dnt know whats in his medicines plus he refused to send medicines to US due to customs clearance. But that month when his medicines worked was good He asked me to get few tests done...blood work was there but i dnt remember if stool test was also done.

Well like you said he is protective of the secret remedy, I can't blame him in a way, It may be something easily copied, who knows. It just makes me wonder what exactly he means by infectious colitis exactly, as he is saying he knows. Could he mean Clostridium Difficile (C. Diff) Colitis.

I don't blame you being afraid of going on immune suppressant drugs, really messing with your body chemistry.

Yes zippy, he has to protect himself.....there r many ready to copy their old cures. I got tested for C.Diff few months back and it was negative. ..i m still trying to find out abt infective colitis

So many people are so quick to dismiss immunosuppressants. In my experience, they mess with your body chemistry a heck of a lot less than pred. I only experience side effects (nausea) when I don't eat with them. Plus they've made me feel normal...I kept flaring on the 5ASA's and let's not even get into how I felt on prednisone.

Infectious colitis is possible and usually caused by c. diff...but if it were infectious, the meds should clear it up PERMANENTLY. Not temporarily.
