i took immuran, asacol, lamictal and phenobarbital (the latter two are for seizures)
asacol and lamictal dont cross the placenta so are safe, however the other two are classified D drugs. BUT i went to a specialist with years of experince and he said that honeslty, there are only a handful of drugs that are really really dangerous, the rest its better to take than risk the effects of the illness. One important thing is to take folic acid before you even start trying to concieve and a good multi vitamin.
Most of the damage drugs do is to the brain and nervous system and spinal development. By the time you get to about 30 weeks, the babies lungs are still developing and its still growing but all that other stuff is ready.
It was really hard on me too to be on meds while i was pregnant it broke my heart thinking of what i might be doing to my baby. But he turned out perfect!
its also important that you deliver in a hospital with a level 2 nursery at least, in case there are problems.
good luck!
