Does alcohol affect anybody

Just wondered cause I'm young and going on holidays will alcohol affect my uc the doctor told me there is no evidence between alcohol and uc getting worse help need advice.

When I'm flaring, it will make me more uncomfortable. In general I just drink wine these days, and not very much of it at that ( 1-2 glasses on weekends...) but thinking back, I do remember some mixed drinks making me poo more and having some disomfort..... and beer doesn't always sit that comfortably, maybe the fizziness (I stopped all carbonated drinks when dxed).
So.... pay attention to your body, and aim for moderation - my motto.

Although the Specific Carbohydrate Diet allows wine (founder E. Gottschall rec'd dry red wine) alcohol of any kind is no-go with my gut. I never drank much before UC but did enjoy an occasional glass of white wine and God knows we all need some stress relief when things are bad UC-wise.

This makes me a little sad that even a small glass of wine causes my gut to go into meltdown mode but after months of trying every now and then I have sworn off. When I drink the glass first it's wonderful, my colon goes into a stupor with no problems at all. But then the next morning it's BM after BM, exhausting me and my colon. Not worth it.

I know talking about medical marijuana is frowned upon here but I would consider moving to a state where it is medically legal sometime in the future. BTW I'm not a radical, just a 50-something law-abiding person with a disease called UC.

Hard liquor would tear me up. Red wine was not good either. I could tolerate beer and white wine, in moderation.
Try it once, you'll know right away.

yeah what a ***** this disease is I'm only 27 and can't go and have a few beers with my mates crazy to think I was healthy and happy a year ago.
Kind of makes you think what life was like before uc I am trying hard to remember what life was like before this but the memories get further and further away every day.

Drinking usually does affect me the next day. If I go out and drink a bunch beers with a few captn cokes, the next morning I may go to the bathroom anywhere from 4-6 times in the first 5 hours. Once I get that out of my system, I'm usually back to my "normal" self. Everyone once in a blue moon, it doesn't really affect me at or its much worse. One suggestion, don't drink iced margaritas. Absolutely killed me the next day.

So it really only affects me short term as in, one day. Last summer I hardly drank at all and didn't really notice any positive results except that i didn't have any next day poops. So now i'm back to going out every other weekend or even back to back weekends and it's not like its putting me in a huge flair or anything. I just turned 25, I wanna have fun with my friends. That's how I look at it.

I'm pregnant right now, but when I did drink, I could always tolerate red wine. Beer is a no-go for me, unless it's gluten free. I'm not sure why, because gluten doesn't seem to bother me anywhere else. White wine is so-so, along with hard liquor. I just usually always played it safe with red wine though. I agree with Peety. You know what you can tolerate right away! :)

sometimes it makes me want to go to the restroom and other times it doesnt effect it at all. Its really pretty hit or miss.

I usually drink a glass of red win ewith dinner once in a while, but after being diagnosed I've stayed away from alcohol...mainly becasue if the meds. The side effects are bad enough without considering alcohol!

No, alcohol has no effect on my UC.  I can drink what I want and not pay the price with my bum.  Keep in mind I am not a heavy drinker but a social one.  I usually can tip a few back with my friends on the weekends and at dinners.  I do it all, wine, beer, mixed drinks, shots, etc...  In fact I often will drink to my UC, I say "If I can't get rid if U I might I as well make a toast 2 U!"

No, it doesn't effect me at all. I usually drink Vodka with with pineapple juice or club soda (SCD legal). I also have wine, red or white. No beer.

It doesn't usually have any radical effect on me but it usually makes that weird, uncomfortable sick gut feeling even worse so I generally avoid it. That being said I've yet to find any food/drink that really aggravates my UC - pretty much anything that might have irritated me before UC still does, and alcohol was probably on that list in the first place.

Alcohol and my UC are not friends. Even the small amount of alcohol in tinctures put me in a flare

I actually ran across a short video with a Harvard doc in it that talked about the REDUCTION in inflammation that occurs with short term use of alcohol in colitis patients.  I cannot find it now, but i think it was on the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation website at one time (may have been somewhere else, but was a reputable site).  It was sort of on the side bar with an unrelated article.

You guys probably will think this is nuts, but Burbon works fine even when I am flaring. On the other hand, red wine (what I used to drink regularly in my pre-colitis days is a big no-no for me now.....

Im new to be diagnosed with UC but as I am feeling out the triggers i have found that alcohol does affect me. So far the people I have talked to say its different for everyone.

I did a short case study on monitoring how alcohol affected my UC. I definitely think it can make a flare worse. I don't know if it would CAUSE a flare though.

Gin is SCD legal. Try Gin water and lime, or gin and cranberry juice. I do find that beer doesnt agree with me, and i dont like softdrinks.

When I am having symptoms of any sort I stay away from alcohol. I really, really... wish this wasn't the case. It just seems to leave an almost poisoned type feeling in me for the next day. I'm not talking about getting drunk, but just a couple/few beers over an evening.

If I'm feeling well (no flaring) I can handle alcohol okay. But, I am hardly ever "normal" so I pretty much stay away from the booze.

My theory is that there's nothing dietary or chemical that causes alcohol to affect UC, but alcohol increases stress and stress promotes flares.

I think alcohol, in moderation, relieves stress. It sure helps me to relax ;) I miss my nightly glass of red wine.

Alcohol suppresses my immune system so effectively that I have perfect bowels for as long as I drink but I have given up drinking as it brings with it its own set of problems. My worst flares were always in periods of complete sobriety.

I totally agree with imagardner. It's so hypocritical that a substance with as many potentially harmful effects as alcohol is so widely advocated and accepted, and something as benign as (medicinal, of course) marijuana is so frowned upon. I find it a bit odd that even speaking of it on a "healing" forum such as this is frowned upon. Strange.
Alcohol has always made my symtoms worse. Even just a glass of red wine.
