I just received my second infusion of remicade and exactly 3 days following I got another bout of thrush (exactly like following the first infusion). Was on Nystatin for 10 days and finished right before my 2nd infusion. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if this will be an ongoing battle now that I am on Remicade. If so how do you deal with it - I can't see being on Nystatin forever.

Thrush where?
We have yeast in our bodies that with imumune suppressing meds, it would possibly flourish.
You can increase probiotics and take caprylic acid to help.

Has been oral thrush. I rinse my mouth currently 3 times with Nystatin but thinking if this is how my system will respond to a suppressed immune system I definitely want to find additional alternatives. Not sure what caprylic acid is - but will look it up. Thanks!

equinepeace,
I started Humira several weeks ago. It's another biologic like Remicade. The day after my first shot I developed oral thrush. This was three weeks ago and the thrush keeps coming and going even with Nystatin.
My GI thinks it could also be the prednisone I'm on since he increased my prednisone significantly that same day. But the thrush doesn't seem to be going away.
I hope it is from the prednisone because I'm starting to feel that Humira is working... fingers crossed.

Try drinking a tea called Pau d' arco. You will likely find it at a health food store like Whole Foods. It's suppose to help with Candida overgrowth... also try avoiding sugar as much as possible.

Thanks - I'm hoping it is the prednisone too. The thought of giving up sweets - at least a few is a bummer for me. I also just read that maybe apple cider vinegar might help. That seems to be a cure all lol. The thought of getting oral thrush on a routine basis due to a medication that works isn't real exciting.

Totally agree. I hope I can come off of Prednisone soon and be done with my nightly "snack" of Nystatin. Fingers crossed that the thrush will stop when the Prednisone stops. If not, then it could be the Humira -- but I hope not.

Here's an update on my situation. Maybe the OP will have an update too?
For about
4 days, I was thrush-free. I took another Humira injection on Saturday.
On Monday, I visited my GI and he started tapering me off of Prednisone from 30mg/day to 20mg (starting today/Tuesday). However, Today (Tuesday) I wake up and the thrush is back.
I really hope the thrush is being caused by the Prednisone and not the Humira because I think Humira is working. For the first 4 weeks on Humira, the thrush was there almost 24/7. However, during that time I was on up to 50mg of Prednisone per day.
