It's fat soluble. Needs to be taken with a fat ie. fried in oil. If you're cooking "a curry" with tumeric it's best to cook it at the beginning with the oil (and other spices if using any). Don't through it in at the end, it won't be as absorbed. In India they drink something called Tumeric Milk ("Haldi Dood") which is full fat milk boiled with tumeric (the fresher the better - try to get the root or if you can't, get the dried chunks kind of like cinnamon sticks). They drink this for any time of inflammation in the body.

As mentioned a couple times, heat it in oil or heat it in liquid which contains fat or oil then put it in the shake. This makes it work better and makes it easier to swallow.

I'm Indian so hence I eat Indian food. :) I am pretty sure I get some amount of turmeric every day in some fashion or another via food. I still got UC, but I have never used steroids even with having pancolitis. Did it help by giving me more of a mild colitis? Maybe...but I can't say for sure as I have always consumed it (before and after UC). Like any supplement - I think it's worth a try as everything is so individualistic. I say whatever supplement it is - do your research, and if you think it's worthwhile...try it in moderation and start slow (dosage wise). I know the experimentation can get frustrating and even expensive, but unfortunately it's part of this disease.

Honestly I have never noticed that tumeric did anything for my UC.

6 people point out that turmeric is not curcumin (or tumeric) but it keeps going and going...

Congratulations on your success. I am in the same boat as you, not using meds. That can be dangerous so I take natural supplements that are proven as effective as mesalamine to maintain remission. So far it has been working.

Curcumin/turmeric is not the only effective supplement. Others proven very effective are psyllium seed, boswellia, and certain probiotics. And there are other foods that are at least helpful from vitamin E to olive oil. But these natural supplements aren’t especially effective for me unless I also avoid the problem foods that trigger my symptoms. I guess that is what you did eating bland for 2 days.

Eva, you're correct in principle, but wrong in this example. If you want an example of where you are correct, look at the post above mine and below yours. The poster doesn't link any studies, only the sales website that references them. And that website itself vsl3.com does not link the specific studies.

You just dont get it, you dont want to get it. These are not scientific studies with lab rats they are REAL clinical trials with human beings. Why don't you do some research yourself I do not need to waste my time running them down for you, I have used VSL3 for 2 years, I have seen the clinical studies and have given you plenty of references to find what you need but your unwilling.

This seems more about you yourself and your ego than any science. Your just another guy who cannot admit when he is wrong.
