Yes, it works well for me however if I am in a bad flare it will not get me out of the flare.  I have to add rectal meds and/or pred to get out of a major flare up.  For me it helps with minor flares (at 4 pills a day) and it helps to minimize symptoms long term.  When I first started it I was not in a major flare and it helped within a few days.  I take it every day for maintenance now and it helps keep me out of a major flare most of the time.  It does not keep me from flaring completely though - I seem to always be in a minor flare even with the Lialda...

I actually used rowasa for about three weeks. Within a couple days of starting it I got better, but then a week and a half later it got bad again. My doctor then prescribed Lialda.

You need the both end approach....it shouldn't be rectal meds...oh, didn't work so stop them and change to oral 5ASA. How high exactly is the extent of your UC....seems into or higher than the sigmoid.
What other supplements, etc are you taking?

Fibre suppmenets can help bulk the stool...and probiotics are also a huge plus for most of us.

WEll, you need to go back or call or refill the prescription of the Rowasa and use them both at the same time.

Left sided usually means involvement of the descending colon. If you had a c-scope, I would suggest you request a copy of the c-scope biopsy results for your records and knowledge of what's going on in YOUR colon.

bostwis1, when I was first diagnosed, I started taking Lialda, and it took a good two weeks to kick in, but then I went into complete remission for almost a year.

I also started acupuncture the day that the flare up began to markedly subside, so there's every likelihood that it was the combination of the two weeks of Lialda and the acupuncture that, together, turned things around for me.

I just wanted to say that I was on Lialda for about three years and it worked okay for me but I just started Apriso two weeks ago and it has worked wonders!!!!  I cannot believe the difference.
