Dikid, SCD is not intended to be a life-long sentence. Most often, IBS is caused by or at least highly associated with SIBO and/or gluten allergy/sensitivity. Both are resolvable. The SCD is a phased diet, meaning, it gets less restrictive as you make progress on it. But you shouldn't, generally speaking, expect SCD to be able to completely resolve underlying health issues - that requires working with a good nutritionist and/or functional or wholistic medical doctor. SIBO issues are best resolved with combination therapies, IMO.
Being on a life-long protocol of pharmaceuticals is also, (again, my opinion) not the best way to live if you can avoid it. Often, we can. For example, type II diabetes is completely beatable without medications.
The biggest restriction on the diet for me, is eliminating cocoa powder. But, I'd rather do that than have my gut staging open revolt.
Ibs and ibd are very different.
Although diet can improve symptoms in some individuals, there is no link between diet and ibd mucosal healing
Therefore, my doctors have advised not to do it as I am deficient in many vitamins and restricting my diet will make things worse.
I am working with a dietician who specializes in GI and works for the ibd center that I am seen in.
Comparing type two diebeties and ibd is not helpful. We know what causes type two so theoretically we can eliminate the cause and hopefully also alleviate the condition.
We don't know the causes for each individual persons ibd so we cannot eliminate the cause to stop the inflammation.
Stopping ibd meds can cause worsening inflammation to crop up
And we know that inflammation causes cancer.
