How do you sleep with UC?

  Please share your tips/meds with me!

  I'm on prednisone, asacol hd 800mg, and canasa suppositories.  I can't sleep because of the stomach discomfort.  Any suggestions??

When I am really sick and on Prednisone I take Ambien.  It really helps.  Right now I am only taking over the counter Unisom and they work great also.

Ativan close to bedtime helps me.....
You've got a double whammy there, if the pain is keeping you awake and also you're on Pred to further stimulate you!

I used to have really bad abdominal pain that would keep me awake at night.  I found that a heating pad on my lower abdomen helped.

When flaring I would stop eating 2-3 hours before going to sleep. Before DX UC I thought I had an ulcer so I would chew DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice). It worked to alleviate my abdominal pain. Later learned that the Chinese are experimenting with DGL for UC.

I take Unisom too for sleep. I'm a chronic insomiac anyway. But when my gut hurts, I lie on my right side because it takes the pressure off the left. If you are in pain and can't sleep, you can ask your doc to prescribe you a narcotic pain reliever just so you can rest.

I take ambien and klonopin. I also stay very still, any movement can cause gas which warrants a bathroom trip. Fortunately I have been sleeping okay lately.

I don't, but that's generally a mix of the pred and waking up to go to the bathroom. I'm usually so exhausted I pass out despite the pain.

I ditto the heating pad ... it can help ease the pain. I also remember that it actually helped with my nausea.

Ambien. Would not sleep a wink without it.

This probably isn't what you want to hear but I sleep like a baby. Even on pred. lol I'm so exhausted I sleep about 10-12 hours a night and take a two hour nap. It is crazy. I do get woke up from my kids every now and than or the dog but very rarley(since starting the remicade) have I gotten up to use the restroom.

i actually get less pain when my knees are in close to my chest so i sleep curled up in a ball on my side (whichever side the pain is less on). i generally wake up a few times due to sweats or needing to use the restroom but other than that, the position helps the pain. one of my friends got one of those pregnancy pillows to lie with, but i haven't tried it so i don't know personally how well it worked.

I had to get off Ambien, it was causing too many weird vivid dreams. My niece was on Ambien and was sleepwalking out into the yard all the time. Once at 3 in the morning she dresses up her six year old daughter takes he to the car to go to school...the grandma caught her before they drove away.

Lunesta was giving me short term morning memory problems.

So now I am on Triozolam, take half a pill along with Melatonin. If I wake up at 2 am, I take the other half pill...But If i wake up at 4, I will not take the other half since it will take me past my wake up time (6 am).

There are time released versions of these pills too.

Laying on my side helps relieve pain for me. Prednisone definitely won't help you with trying to sleep. :/
